Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 vs. Nexus 7 – Features and Specifications Comparison

Both Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and Nexus 7 are Android based tablets that use micro SIMs and were launched around the first half of 2013.

Of the two, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 was officially announced earlier, in June 2013, while the Nexus 7 followed suit, just a month later, in July 2013. The tablets have been listed among the successful tablets launched by their respective manufacturers. The Samsung Galaxy tablet utilizes a dual core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, with a clocking frequency of 1.5GHz and an ARM Mali-400 MP4 graphics processor. On the other hand, the Nexus tablet comprises a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro Krait processor that clocks at 1.5GHz along with an Adreno 320 graphics processor. The Samsung Galaxy and the Nexus tablets also feature 1.5GB RAM and 2GB RAM respectively.

Verdict: Once again the Nexus 7 tablet ranks a step ahead with its more powerful processors and excess inbuilt RAM, although, both tablets render good performances.

Internal Storage and Expandable Memory

Like other tablets in their series, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and the Nexus 7 tablets, come in two variations of 16GB and 32GB each. Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy tablet has a memory slot that can accommodate a microSD, a microSDHC or a microSDXC memory card capacity up to 64GB.

Verdict: This is one key area where the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 gains the upper hand over the Nexus 7 tablet. If you plan to store a lot of media files on your tablet, then the ability to opt for expanding memory might be truly worth considering, in order to avoid using up your tablet’s memory and slowing it down.

Software

The battery is non-removable in both the tablets.

Verdict: This is yet another plus point for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. Featuring better battery life, the Samsung tablet scores a couple of points more than the Nexus tablet.

Colors

The tablets are available in the same color as their predecessors. While the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 comes in white color, the Nexus 7 tablet is sold in black color.

Verdict: This is not a deciding factor to decide the ideal tablet for you. However, it may be interesting to know the colors available for those who would like to know the options they can choose from.
