Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 – Comparison Review

The growth of both Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 has been gigantic.

However, this gigantic growth owes some credit to the vast popularity of Samsung’s arch rival Apple iPad. In the tablet arena, Samsung has not been able to place itself due to the company laying emphasis in the smartphone market. The initial tablet launched by Samsung, the Galaxy Tab, offers a poor user experience. Henceforth, the company has launched several updated versions in the Galaxy Tab series. The second-gen Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 tablet was released in April 2012, which was replaced with the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 next year in July 2013.

However, the Galaxy Tab 3 appears newer from outside, but resembles Galaxy Tab 2 with respect to its internals.

Design

Samsung Electronics released its recent Android based tablets with stylus, similar to that of Galaxy Note. However, the company is not ready to give up the Galaxy Tab brand as of now. The release of Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 in the year 2013 is very similar to a year old Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 tablet. Moreover, the Tab 3 has been designed and released keeping in mind the budget conscious masses.

On the exterior, the Tab 3 has received visual enhancements. The company has desperately tried to bring the Tab 3 device in line with the Galaxy SIII smartphones and tablets. The Tab 3 has shed the button-less face. The device now comes with standard Home button along with Back and Menu buttons.

The Tab 3 is a tad thinner and lighter than Tab 2 with 0.39 inches, beating 0.41 inches and 0.67 pounds beating 0.76 pounds respectively.

Features

Looking at the interiors of the Tab 3, one can find a number of resemblances with that of the Tab 2 7.0 device. Both the tablets come equipped with a 7-inch display having a resolution of 1024×600 pixels. In fact, the pixel densities of both these tablets are also similar at 169 pixels-per-inch. These tablets come with dual core processor; the Tab 2 equipped with 1GHz OMAP4430 CPU and Tab 3 comes with 1.2GHz processor. Both the tablets have a RAM of 1GB and come in 8GB or 16GB internal memory variants. In addition, both come with external storage memory card slots for memory enhancement. Other similar features include dual band Wi-Fi, optional cellular connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0 and 3MP primary camera. However, the front facing camera of the Tab 3 comes equipped with a 1.3MP sensor in comparison to the 0.3MP sensor of the Tab 2 7.0 phablet. Both include the Android version 4.1 operating system (only if case you have updated your Tab 2).

Regardless, the number of similarities between the Tab 2 and Tab 3 overweigh the differences between the two tablets.

Processor

In terms of processor, the Tab 3 is equipped with a slightly enhanced processor than that of the Tab 2 7.0. The Tab 3 7.0 is priced at $199 close to Nexus 7 device. The Wi-Fi version of Tab 3 7.0 was released in the month of May 2013 and the 3G variant was released in the following month of June 2013.
