Samsung Galaxy S5 vs. iPhone 5S – Quick Comparison on Build, Memory, Display and Hardware

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has been released in the market for some time now, coming in direct competition with its arch rivals, Apple iPhone 5S. However, both the companies have been releasing smarter, quicker and bigger handsets in quick succession, in order to outdo each other. Build Quality

In terms of build quality, the iPhone 5S appears reasonably smaller, as compared to its counterpart, the Galaxy S5. The Apple smartphone measures 123.8mm in stature, 58.6mm in breadth and 7.6mm in thickness. In comparison, the Galaxy S5 comes in a height of 142mm, breadth of 73mm and is 8.1mm thick. In terms of weight, the Galaxy S5 is a heavier handset at 145 grams, as compared to the 112 grams weight of the iPhone 5S smartphone.

In terms of material used in the manufacturing of both the devices, the iPhone presents a robust look in comparison to the Galaxy S5 handset. The Apple smartphone is encased in anodized aluminum, as compared to the plastic casing of the Galaxy S5 handset. Regardless, the use of plastic does not keep the Samsung smartphone from presenting a sensational look, typical of Samsung Electronics’ other handsets.

Display

The bigger size of the Galaxy S5 smartphone is due to its massive 5.1-inch display. In comparison, the iPhone 5S incorporates a smaller 4-inch screen, having a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels. The bigger screen of the Galaxy S5 comes with a full HD resolution at 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Hardware

An ARM v8-based dual core processor clocked at a speed of 1.8GHz powers the iPhone 5S smartphone. In comparison, the Galaxy S5 derives power from the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, running at a speed of 2.5GHz. Both the smartphones come at par with each other, in terms of performance.

In terms of graphics, the Galaxy S5 incorporates a faster Adreno 330 graphic processor, as compared to the PowerVR G6430 graphic processor of the iPhone 5S. The Galaxy S5 is a quicker smartphone, when it comes to running apps and playing games. Regardless, both the smartphones have the ability to play almost anything from their respective application stores.

Memory

In terms of memory, a RAM of 2GB supports the CPU and GPU combination of the Galaxy S5 handset. In comparison, the iPhone is coupled with a RAM of 1GB. However, the three storage capacity variants of the iPhone 5S – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, offers more options for the potential buyer. In comparison, the Galaxy S5 comes in 16GB and 32GB internal memory variants.
