Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs iPad Air – Pricing, Features and Specifications

At first glance, these two devices are not comparable to one another. Note 4 is a phablet, while iPad Air is tablet.

However, Samsung has been so successful in the phablet segment that the company’s newest product, Galaxy Note 4 can easily compete with some tablets as well.

Design and Display

Note 4 is expected to deviate from the traditional Samsung design, due to the criticism Samsung Galaxy S5 has faced. Experts believe Note 4 will come with smaller bezels. iPad Air, on the other hand, is one of the premium tablets when it comes to design. It feels ultra light in your hands due its weight of just 450 grams. For a device that boasts 9.7 inches display, the weight is impressive. When it comes to screen resolution, Note 4 is expected to take matters to another level and dimension. The newest phablet is expected to break the 500ppi barrier, with screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 and the density of around 515ppi. Screen size is still a mystery. Some reports suggest 5.7 inches, while others go for 5.9. Both devices are staying true to their display design technology, with Samsung relying on Super AMOLED. Apple, on the other hand, has equipped its tablet with a scratch resistant screen, with resolution of 1536 x 2048 and density of just 264ppi.

Hardware and Operating System

As expected, Note 4 will boast powerful processor, Snapdragon 805, quad-core at either 1.3GHz or 2.5GHz with 4 GB RAM memory. This powerful device can handle all that you throw at it: applications, videos, multitasking, and internet browsing at the highest speed possible. Internal storage looks decent, up to 64 GB, with an additional 128 GB available through memory slot. Apple’s iPad Air comes with a dual core A7 processor at 1.3 GHz, powered by quad-core graphics. It can offer storage memory up to 64 GB.
Note 4 runs on the latest version of Android (4.4.4 KitKat). Apple’s tablet, at the moment, is powered by iOS 7, but an upgrade to iOS 8 is expected.

Camera

Galaxy Note 4 will continue to use the 16 MP rear camera from S5. This camera has done an excellent job so far, and it is expected to continue to serve users. While iPad air comes with just 5 MP rear camera, it is more than enough for taking high quality pictures (2592 x 1944 pixels) and videos (1080p at 30fps). There is no question that Note 4 can do more, like taking pictures at 3456 x 4608, video recording at 2160p at 30 fps and 1080p at 60 fps. The camera also comes with some cool features like geo tagging, face and smile detection, panorama, and HDR.

Battery

There still haven’t been confirmed rumors about the battery life and capacity of Note 4. However, since Note 3 had 3200 mAh battery, one can expect progress in the segment. The battery on Note 3 lasts for a whole day, something that is not common for smatphones. Note 4 will have features for battery life like Ultra power saving mode (seen on the S5). According to statistics and tests, iPad Air lasts 10 hours when running several multimedia applications.

Price

Price plays a huge role when comparing these devices. The iPad Air can be bought for just $440 (16GB version with Wi-Fi connectivity). Note 4, on the other hand, is rather expensive device, with a starting price of around $750.
