Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo vs Samsung Galaxy S5 DX – Best Prices and Specs Comparison

The Note 3 Neo is the cheaper alternative to the Note 3 phablet, while the Galaxy S5 DX is the name of the Galaxy S5 Mini. There were many rumors and leaks presenting the internal aspects of this phone which is the most powerful smartphone from the Mini series. But let’s take a look at both devices’ specs and features and maybe you’ll decide to buy one of these Samsung models.

Displays and sizes

The Note 3 Neo is a phablet with a Super AMOLED display sized at 5.5inches, which supports a resolution of 720x1280pixels and 267ppi. It comes with an S Pen stylus for a better user experience, and like its Note 3 sibling, the back panel is made of a faux leather with stitches on the edges. Its dimensions are 148.4×77.4×8.6mm and it weights 162.5grams.

The S5 DX has a 4.5inches display that uses the same technology and supports the same resolution, but the pixel density is more convenient at 326ppi. Following the pattern of its bigger brother (the Galaxy S5), this mini version comes with a fingerprint scanner, a heart rate monitor and it’s dust and water resistant. It has a weight of 120grams and it measures 131.1×64.8×9.1mm.

Hardware and OS

The Note 3 is powered by a combination consisting of a quad core Cortex A7 clocked at 1.3GHz and a dual core Cortex A15, clocked at 1.7GHz, based on an Exynos 5260 chipset and using a Mali-T624 GPU. The 2GB of RAM speed up the system and the 16GB of ROM (11GB user available) can be expanded up to 64GB. Also, the phablet comes loaded with Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) OS, but you can upgrade it to v4.4.2 (KitKat).

The S5 DX, on the other hand, offers a laudable hardware performance, thanks to the quad core Cortex A7 pressor, clocked at 1.4GHz, combined with an Exynos 3 Quad 3470 chipset and a Mali-400MP4 GPU. This device has 1.5GB of Ram and 16GB of internal storage, expandable up to 64GB and it runs on the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) OS with TouchWiz UI on top of it, just like the Note 3 Neo. Also, both smartphones have accelerometer, compass, gyro and proximity sensors.

Cameras

Both Samsung models have rear cameras of 8MP with many similar features: autofocus, LED flash, geo tagging, face and smile detection, touch focus, panorama and HDR and the Note 3 Neo has in addition image stabilization. The video recording capabilities is at 1080p@30fps on both phones. The Note 3 Neo has a 2MP camera on the front, while the S5 DX has a 2.1MP secondary camera.

Batteries

The Note 3 Neo has a bigger battery, with the capacity of 3100mAh, which delivers 18 hours of talk time on 3G and 64hours of music playtime. The S5 DX has a 2100mAh battery with which you can talk 10 hours on 3G and listen to music for 47hours.

The Note 3 Neo can be purchased from amazon.com at the price of 439 dollars. The price range of the S5 DX will be over 600 dollars.
