Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 vs HTC One Max – Top Price and Specs Comparison

The smartphone market is filled with models which are around 4-5inches tall. However, there is another category of individuals that like to struggle to hold a big phone in their hands. The manufacturers have adapted to their needs and created massive phones which they called “phablets”. The One Max and the Mega 6.3 are two of the biggest phablets on the market.

Designs

Most of the Samsung phones have a cheap design, as they share the same plastic rear covers with faux metal rim. If you got used to HTC’s phones with aluminum shells, then we hate to disappoint you, but the One Max is also made of plastic, but it’s more elegant than the Mega 6.3.

Displays and sizes

The HTC One Max is equipped with a 5.9inches Super LCD3 display with a Full resolution of 1080x1920pixels which gives a pixel density of 373ppi. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and has a finger print sensor. The dimensions of the HTC model are 164.5×82.5×10.3mm and it weights 217grams.

The Galaxy Mega has a screen that measures 6.3inches, it’s a SC-LCD screen that supports a HD resolution of 720x1280pixels and 233ppi. This phone is 167.6mm tall, has a width of 88mm and it’s 8mm thick, so it’s much more slimmer than the One Max. Also, it’s lighter, weighting 199grams.

Hardware and OS

Back in 2013, when these phablets were released, both HTC and Samsung equipped their devices with powerful processors, but compared to the new generation of smartphones, they seem outdated. The One Max comes with a quad core 1.7GHz Krait 300 processor, which is backed by a Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon 600 chipset and an Adreno 320 GPU. The Galaxy Mega is powered by a dual core 1.7Ghz Krait CPU and has an older Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset and an Adreno 305 GPU. The HTC One Max outpaces the Galaxy Mega in terms of random access memory, as well, as it hosts 2GB of RAM, compared to 1.5GB of RAM from the Mega 6.3.

The One Max comes in two variants of internal storage – 16 and 32GB, which are expandable up to 64GB. The Galaxy Mega hosts 8 and 16GB of built in storage, also expandable up to 64GB.

As for the OS, both of the phablets run on the Android platform. The HTC model comes loaded with the 4.3 (Jelly Bean) version, while the Galaxy Mega runs on a previous version, 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), but you can upgrade it to 4.4.2 (KitKat).

Also, both companies have developed their own UI, so HTC integrated Sense 5.5 UI on its One Max and Samsung modified Android to create the TouchWiz interface.

Cameras

The Galaxy Mega has a more advanced primary camera with 8MP lens, which records videos at 1080p@30fps. The features of this camera include 3264x2448pixels, autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, geo tagging, HDR, face and smile detection and panorama. The secondary camera on this device is 1.9MP. The One Max offers a 4MP shooter with 2688x1520pixels, autofocus, LED flash, 1/3” sensor size and 2µm pixel size, face and smile detection, HDR, geo tagging, simultaneous HD video & image recording and video recording at 1080p@30fps and 720p@60fps. But if you want professional pictures, you should consider buying a DSLR, because you won’t obtain the sharpest and most defined images with these phones.

Batteries

The One Max’s battery is non-removable, having a capacity of 3300mAh which should allow you to talk 25 hours on 3G. The Galaxy Mega has 3200mAh battery, but it’s removable and it offers 10 hours of talk time on 3G. That’s because the processor and the camera consumes the battery faster.

Prices

The HTC One Max 32GB 4G variant can be found on amazon.com at the price of 448 dollars. The galaxy Mega 6.3 costs 400 dollars.
