Rise of the Tomb Raider Is Exclusive to Xbox One and Xbox 360

Surprising! Microsoft has officially unveiled during the Gamescom 2014 event at Cologne, Germany that Rise of the Tomb Raider, a new title in the series is going to be an Xbox exclusive.

As soon as the announcement was made, there was some confusion related to the existence of the game on the Xbox 360 platform. Executives at Microsoft refused to comment immediately, but after a couple of hours they confirmed that the game is coming to both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

When the title was unveiled during E3 2014, it was said to be coming to PC, Playstation 4 as well as the Xbox consoles but now it looks like Microsoft paid them or whatever, they have decided to keep it only on their platforms. Well, it could most probably be a timed exclusive as it took place for GTA 5 and even console sellers Dead Rising 3 and Ryse is now coming to PC. We just can’t trust the company with their marketing moves, because ten months from release date, they will most probably reveal a release date for PC as well as Sony’s Playstation 4 platforms, because Tomb Raider is a franchise that just can’t be exclusive to anyone.

Microsoft’s Support

In their official note, Square Enix said that Microsoft believed in their ideas and were more than willing to support Rise of the Tomb Raider right from the start. As they are ready to invest in the game which would help it grow and allow it to be on top of the action adventure genre, they decided to make the game exclusive as it would make it one of the biggest brands in gaming. The backing, belief and support lent by one of the biggest corporations in the world, Microsoft, will allow us to realize the full potential of the Tomb Raider series without hurdles. We do enjoy what we create and at the moment, we confidently say that this is one of the most ambitious games in the series that is going to be something to look forward to, when it gets launched.

Playstation 4 and PC Not Forgotten

The people at Crystal and Square Enix added that they haven’t forgotten those on Playstation 4 and PC. The note goes on to say, ‘We do know that there is such a huge player community and fans, who play only on PC or the PS4 platforms. The Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is on the Playstation 4, while Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris are coming to these platforms, in the month of December. We look forward to answering your questions.’

Based on the press conference that took place, most critics and gamers assume that it is going to be an Xbox exclusive only through the year 2015, after which it will start making its way to other platforms. As we know already, companies would never accept the fact that eventually most games will become multi-platform, which is going to be the case with games like Destiny, which is not on PC for now.
