Nexus 7 vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 3 – Comparing the Two Tablets

The upcoming trend of the tablet PC has taken the mobile industry by storm.

The masses are showing more interest in the tablet PC in the present times. The release of Nexus 7 by LG Electronics has catered the market with a full-fledged tablet. The tablet is readily available at a low price. Despite its low price, the Nexus 7 provides the user with quality performance in every respect.

The Nexus 7 is a tablet PC, yet it comes with a smaller screen than most conventional tablets. However, with the smartphones developing into phablets, a distinct and interesting competition has begun. In comparison, the Galaxy Note 3 from the Korean giant, Samsung Electronics, is one among the best phablets available in the mobile industry.

However, let us find out which of the two is a better device, by comparing the two tablets in terms of their features and specifications.

Design and Display

In terms of design and display, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 encompasses a 5.7-inch screen, which is smaller than the 7-inch display of the Nexus 7 tablet. In addition, the Note 3 comes with a slightly better pixel density than the Nexus 7 tab. However, both the tablets offer full HD resolution to the user. The difference in pixel density is not substantial enough to be noticed by the user instantly.

The Samsung tablet enables the potential user to make calls by making use of a SIM card, a feature similar to that of a smartphone, only larger in size to a smartphone. In comparison, the Nexus 7 is also equipped with 3G supporting features, but it would always be considered a tablet first.

Hardware and Memory

Comparing the two tablets with respect to hardware and memory, both the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Note 3 offer great power. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes with the Android version 4.4 OS supporting the TouchWiz UI and still remains surprisingly quick. The tablet functions smoothly without any lags and delays, mostly because of its 3GB of RAM. In comparison, the Nexus 7 may not come equipped with tailor-made TouchWiz UI, but the tablet comes equipped with the Android based, Vanilla operating system, which is quicker than most OSs. A 1.5GHz quad core processor powers the Nexus 7; whereas, the Note 3 comes with 2.3GHz core processor.

The LG Nexus 7 is available in 16GB and 32GB internal storage capacity variants, whereas, the Note 3 comes with a 64GB internal storage capacity variant. The latter also comes equipped with an external memory card slot for memory enhancement of up to 64GB via a microSD card. The Note 3 offers the user to store content up to 128 GB in total.

Battery and Camera

In terms of battery and camera specifications, both these tablets offer similar battery life. However, the Nexus comes with a bigger battery unit of 3950 mAh in comparison to the 3200 mAh battery unit of the Galaxy Note 3 tablet.

The Note 3 has a better camera with 13MP sensor, in comparison to the 5MP camera of the Nexus 7 tablet.

Price

The Nexus 7 is priced at $220, whereas, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is readily available at a price of $530. The Price quoted here is for 16GB variants.
