Motorola Moto G vs HTC Desire 616 – Price and Specs Comparison

The Moto G has been on the market for a while, and it’s selling well. But some of the consumers are looking for newly released smartphones, and the HTC Desire 616 falls into this category, being launched in May this year. It doesn’t offer a memorable hardware performance as you’d expect from it, but its biggest advantage is the 8Mp rear camera. Let’s see the rest of the specs and features of both of the phones.

Displays and sizes

The HTC Desire 616 has a bigger display, sized at 5 inches, and has the same resolution as Moto G’s 4.5inches IPS LCD display – 1280x720pixels. The difference is that the Moto G has a higher pixel density – 326ppi, while the Desire 616 supports 294ppi.

As for the dimensions, the HTC model is 142mm tall, has a width of 71.9mm and a thickness of 9.2mm and it weights 150grams. The Moto G is measuring 129.9×65.9×11.6mm and it weights 7grams less. Plus, it’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Hardware and OS

The Desire 616 is powered by a 1.4GHz octa core Cortex A7, which is backed by a Mediatek MT6592 chipset and it uses a Mali-450MP4 GPU. The Moto G has the same octa core Cortex A7, but it’s clocked at 1.2GHz, it has a Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset and an Adreno 305 GPU.

None of these devices excels when it comes to built-in storage. The Desire 616 offers only 4GB of internal storage – expandable up to 32GB, while the Moto G comes in two variants of unexpandable memories – 8 and 16GB.

In terms of OS, the Desire 616 comes loaded with an older Android version – 4.2.2 Jelly Beans. The Moto G runs on the 4.3 Jelly Beans, which was upgraded to the 4.4.4 KitKat version.

Cameras

Nothing much to say about Moto G’s primary camera, which has a resolution of 5MP and its features include autofocus, LED flash, geo tagging, face detection, HDR, touch focus, panorama and video recording at 720p@30fps. The Desire 616 has a more advanced primary shooter, 8MP, with similar features, but has in addition simultaneous HD video and image recording and the video recording is at 1080p@30fps. The HTC model has a 2MP secondary camera, while the Moto G has a 1.3MP front camera.

Batteries

The Desire 616 has a Li-Po 2000mAh battery which allows you to talk 14hours on 3G. The Moto G has a Li-Ion battery with a slightly bigger capacity which claims to allow up to 24hours of talk time on 3G.

Prices

The Moto G can be found on amazon.com. The 8GB variant is priced at 174 dollars, while the 16GB variant costs 198 dollars. The Desire 616 is a celebrity in India, and its price is 274 dollars.
