Moto G vs. Nexus 4 – Comparison of Price and Features

The Nexus 4 was undoubtedly a much sought after phone in the past one and a half years.

However, after the launch of Nexus 5, the Nexus 4 has been discontinued by Google. Used Nexus 4s smartphones are available on auction websites such as eBay for a very high price. The fairly recently launched Moto G is available at about half the price if you want a new phone.

Moto G vs. Nexus 4 – Screen Display

The Google Nexus 4 features a very slightly larger screen display than the Moto G. However, the pixel resolution is the same 720p for both the smartphones. While the Moto G encompasses the up to date scratch resistant and stronger Gorilla Glass 3 screen layer, the Nexus 4 uses the Gorilla Glass 2.

Verdict: While both the smartphones score equally with respect to the display, the Nexus 4 gains an extra score if you wish to use your phone as a mini video player.

Moto G vs. Nexus 4 – Customization

The Moto G has a removable back cover. There are three options you can choose from. These are the standard back covers that are available in varying finishes, inbuilt flip covers and those with rubbery edges for extra safety. As far as Nexus 4 is concerned, it has a non-removable front and back cover. Also, you have no access to the insides of Nexus 4.

Verdict: If you wish to make your smartphone look different from those of others, then the Moto G is a better choice.

Moto G vs. Nexus 4 – Power

Although both Moto G and Nexus 4 are quad-core smartphones, the Nexus 4 ranks a step ahead. The Moto G uses a newer chip with a Snapdragon 400 CPU, while the Nexus 4 features a high-end Snapdragon S4 Pro chip. However, the Nexus 4 processor is faster in terms of speed. The Geekbench gives the Nexus 4 around 700 points more than the Moto G.

Verdict: The Nexus 4 is more powerful than Moto G and can be a good choice if you have quite a few apps on your smartphone.

Moto G vs. Nexus 4 – Software Updates

The Nexus 4 is a complete Android phone while the Moto G uses additional features such as Motorola Assist and a different camera app. While Nexus 4 already uses KitKat, the latest version of Android’s operating system, the Moto G is still undergoing optimizations to incorporate this.

Verdict: With respect to receiving software updates for your smartphone, the Nexus 4 smartphone is the ideal choice as it receives updates faster. Thus, you can keep your phone up to date with the latest software as and when they are released.

Moto G vs. Nexus 4 – Camera

The Nexus 4 has a camera with higher resolution and an 8 megapixel sensor as against the 5 megapixel sensor of Moto G. Moreover, the inbuilt HDR mode of Moto G is very slow and cannot be used for taking rapid action shots.

Verdict: The Nexus 4 gains over the Moto G with respect to its camera functionality although not by a huge margin.

In a nutshell, the Nexus 4 is a better option over the Moto G in regard to aspects such as camera, power and some other features. However if you want value for money, then Moto G is a good bet.
