LG G3 vs Gionee Elife S5.5 – Comparison of Features and Price

Elife S5.5 is labeled as the slimmest phone in the world, but it is more than just that.

A product by China based company Gionee, Elife S5.5 is set to conquer the market in China, India, Vietnam and the Middle East. How does it compare with the competition? Well, let’s take a look how it fares versus LG G3, another phone in the phablet category.

Design and Display

Touted as the slimmest smartphone in the world, Elife S5.5 is also one of the best looking phones on the market. It has superb design, mimicking the one of iPhone 4 (dual glass design). Protective Gorilla Glass 3 covers the entire front and rear of the phone. The phone packs 5-inches Super AMOLED screen, with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 and density of 441ppi. The shape is angular, making it tad uncomfortable in the hand, and there are phones offering far better grip. However, the shape and flat sides are perfect for a device this slim. LG, on the other hand, is in a class of its own when it comes to screen resolution. G3 comes with Quad HD, 5.5 inches screen display, and resolution of 2560 x 1440. Do the math, and that is density of 535ppi (one of the highest on the market). LG certainly cannot compete with the design and dimensions of Elife S5.5, but it sure has better screen resolution.

Hardware and Operating System

G3 is powered by Snapdragon 801, quad core processor at 2.46GHz with 2 GB RAM memory. The device is extremely powerful, fast, and can handle everything you throw at it. Elife S5.5 comes with octa core 1.7 GHz processor and 2 GB RAM memory. While it is powerful, the disadvantage is the use of older generation of GPU, MediaTek. Both devices have 16 GB internal memory, but unlike Elife S5.5, LG’s device has a slot for microSD card. The card can add up additional 128 GB of memory space.

Gionee’s device uses its own OS, Amigo 2.0, which in essence, is another name for Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The OS keeps all Google applications and services, and brings some more of its own. The result is a simple OS looking very similar to iOS. LG has marketed G3 with the word “simple.” The mantra is visible in the OS, which is Android 4.4 KitKat, but comes with the LG unique skin. G3 has some special features, like “Smart tips,” a section with three major categories, and each full with different YouTube tutorials. Additionally, G3 has its own version of health application, labeled LG Health.

Battery

Elife S5.5 features a 2300 mAh battery that lasts up to 11 hours on talk time and 490 on stand up mode. LG G3, on the other hand, boasts a 3000 mAh battery. However, the main concern with G3 is the large display that requires a lot of power.

Camera

Pretty standard, with both devices equipped with 13 MP rear camera. Elife S5.5 can capture photos at 4208 x 3120 pixels and record videos 1080p videos at 24fps. One of the advantages is the 5-MP front camera, excellent for taking selfies. The simplest part of LG’s software is the camera. You can take photos in less than 2 seconds: open the camera, point to the subject, tap the screen. With G3, you can record videos up to 4k.

Price

The price is one of the biggest advantages Gionee Elife S5.5 can offer. For just around $360, users get a premium smartphone. Compared to the competition, the price is as low as it can be. LG G3 for example, costs around $720.

Final verdict

G3 is one of the best Android phones on the market at the moment. Elife S5.5 is close, but not in the same class. However, due to its low price, attention to detail and marketable features, the success of the phone can extend beyond the intended markets.
