LG G Pad 8.0 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 – Pricing and Specifications Compared

The crowded world of tablets just got bigger after the introduction of the LG G Pad 8.0.

This tablet will be competing against several other 8 inch tablets like the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. These 8 inch tablets are an attempt to offer something bigger than the phablets, which are smart phones that offer around 6 inches of screen size. However, they do not lose out on the portability aspect. This way, the tablet does not appear to figure in the likes of tablets with 10 inch screen.

Display

The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is a third generation of the ‘tab’ range from Samsung to feature an 8 inch display. It comes with 800 x 1280 pixels, which is the same resolution offered on the LG G Pad 8.0, of resolution to provide a maximum of 189 pixels per inch. The LG product also uses the 8 inch display, as its name suggests. However, the biggest difference between the two devices in terms of screen is in the technology used. The LG uses the IPS panel, which is perceived to be much better, while the Samsung offers the no-frills TFT display.

Memory

Since most Android tablets come with external memory card support, the amount of storage offered internally is a crucial factor in terms of separating products. The LG G Pad 8.0 offers only 16 GB of internal storage coupled with external memory card support. However, the Samsung offers a 32 GB option in addition to the memory card support. Since most tablets are likely to be used as entertainment devices, this additional memory could potentially hold a trump card for Samsung.

Performance

The advantages in terms of memory are wiped out when it comes to the performance aspect. Despite having slightly more RAM (1.5 GB compared to the 1 GB on the G Pad 8.0), the Samsung trails the LG product quite significantly in this regard due to its smaller dual core 1.5 GHz processor. Further, the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 does not offer the Snapdragon processor as seen in the G Pad 8.0. Instead, it offers the Exynos chip that has been seen as a secondary comparison with the Snapdragon in terms of reliability and performance. The G Pad 8.0 is also substantially faster due its quad core 1.2 GHz speed.

Connectivity

It is almost impossible to separate the two devices in terms of connectivity features since they have almost an identical set like Wi-Fi direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, DLNA, Bluetooth, and microUSB. The Samsung does offer USB on the go feature compared to the G Pad 8.0, which does not.

Battery

The G Pad 8.0 also has a slightly smaller 4200 mAh battery whereas the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 has a 4450 mAH battery. The lower powered processor on the Samsung device is likely to help it in terms of performance. Priced at around $200, the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 offers a cheaper alternative, considering that the first generation device has just hit the stores. In comparison, the LG G Pad 8.0 is slightly more expensive at around $250 for the unlocked versions.
