iPhone 5S vs Samsung Galaxy S5 – Comparison of Specs, Features and Pricing

General Information

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was released in April 2014. The Apple iPhone 5S was released in September 2013. It is available in Space Grey, Gold and Silver color variants.

Display and Design

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has the Super AMOLED display on its 5.1 inches screen along with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 Pixels with 432 Pixels per inch. Its additional display features include the Adapt Display Technology, which automatically optimizes its 16M color range. The iPhone 5S has 1136 x 640 Pixels with 326 Pixels per inch on its 4-inch display screen. It also comes with a Finger Print Resistance Technology, Touch ID, and 360-degree readability along with a dual LED Flash. Weighing 145 grams, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a dimension of 72.5 x 142 x 8.1 mm. The iPhone 5S weighs 112 grams with a dimension of 58.6 x 123.8 x 7.6 mm.

Hardware and Operating System

The Galaxy S5 has a 1.9 GHz octa-core processor made by Exynos Octa 5420, a 2 GB RAM and an internal storage capacity of 16 GB, which can be expanded up to 128 GB by using a microSD card. The iPhone 5S, on the other hand, has a 1.3 GHz dual-core processor made by Apple A7 (64-bit ARMv8) with a 1 GB RAM and an internal storage of 16 GB. It also comes with 32 GB and 64 GB variants, none of which are expandable.

The Galaxy S5 has the Android 4.4.2 operating system, with TouchWiz skin and Java support. Its browser, however, does not support flash. The iPhone 5S uses the iOS 7 operating system without Java or flash support.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a 16-megapixel Rear Camera with Flash and a 2.1-megapixel Front Camera. Meanwhile, the iPhone 5S comes with an 8-megapixel Rear Camera with Flash and has a Front Camera of 1.2-megapixel.

Battery

The Galaxy S5 has a removable battery with 2800 mAH capacity while the iPhone 5S has a non-removable battery with a 1570 mAH capacity.

Connectivity

Both the phones have GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, and GPS and both the phones do not have FM. The Galaxy additionally has NFC, Infrared, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, and MHL out while the iPhone has none of these. They both have email features with different default browsers. The Galaxy has the Google Android browser and the iPhone has Safari. The Galaxy requires a Micro-Sim and the iPhone needs a Nano-Sim. Both the phones are GSM compatible.

Multimedia

The iPhone 5S supports only the WAV and MP3 audio formats while the Samsung Galaxy S5 supports most of the popular available audio formats. Both the phones support the MP4 and HD video formats.

Sensors

Both the phones have proximity, ambient light, and fingerprint sensors. The Samsung Galaxy, however, also has a Barometer which the iPhone lacks.

Warranty

The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a 1-year warranty for the handset and a 6-month warranty for its accessories. The iPhone 5S comes with a 1 year warranty for both the handset and its accessories.

Prices

One will have to shell out $700 for a Samsung Galaxy S5, while the iPhone 5S ranges from $199 to $849 depending on its storage capacity and contract.
