Apple has a wide range of iPhones that enthusiasts can pick from, based on their needs and capabilities.

The iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C are some of the well-known iPhones. For most people, it can be hard to tell the difference between an iPhone 5S and an iPhone 5C. These phones were released around the same time and caused a stir in the smartphone market.

So, what is the difference between these two phones?

The Price Difference

The iPhone 5C costs slightly lower than the iPhone 5S. It is retailing at $787 while the latter is going for $922. This is a price that is higher than what you would pay for a Samsung Galaxy S4 or a HTC one. Getting a special deal on the iPhone is quite hard and rare. Even so, people do not seem bothered at all, by the sky high prices of Apple products.

The Design

The two phones are constructed completely differently. The iPhone 5S is mostly made of metal, while the iPhone 5C is mostly plastic. This is, by far, the most obvious difference between these two phones.

With the use of different material on the covers, there are also slight differences in the design, to facilitate the use of the materials. The iPhone 5C comes in a curved shape with smooth edges. On the other hand, the iPhone 5S comes across as a serious and stuffy alternative.

These phones come with rears that cannot be opened and thus you have no access to the battery. The sim card tray is situated on the side. As expected, the build quality in both phones is excellent. There are no squeaky parts, no half-designed finishes and there are no wide seams.

Both phones are somewhat the same size; but the 5C is a tad bit thicker standing at 9mm in thickness while the 5S is only 7.6mm thick. Consequently, the iPhone 5C weighs 132g while the iPhone 5S weighs 112g.

These differences work well for both the phones, in bringing out the uniqueness of each. The iPhone 5C is for users who seek fun while the 5S is for people looking for extremes.

The Colors

The iPhone 5S comes in gold, dark grey and silver colors while the iPhone 5C comes in blue, pink, yellow, white and green. This is an improvement from the ordinary silver and black colors, common with Apple products. However, these colors are a lot less vivid when compared to the Nokia Lumia line. If you are after conspicuous colors, you may be disappointed by the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C.

The Screen

Both phones come with 4 inch screens and 326ppi density. They both offer similar high quality display. The contrast on both phones is great, the brightness is amazing and the color production is excellent.

The Processor and Camera

The iPhone 5C features an Apple A6, 32bit, 1GB RAM processor, while the iPhone 5S features the Apple A7, 64-bit, 1GB RAM. This means that the 5C processor is less powerful than the iPhone 5C processor. As far as the camera is concerned, the iPhone 5S features an 8MP, LED TrueTone flash camera with a 1/3 sensor and slo-mo mode. On the other hand, the iPhone 5C features an 8MP, LED flash camera with a /3.2 sensor.
