iPhone 5C – Apple’s cheaper and Colorful Smartphone – Best Buy?

Apple was the first company to create the most elegant smartphones, but they came with a price and the market demanded a cheaper alternative. So, in September 2013, two variants were released for the two categories of consumers: the luxurious iPhone 5S with a metallic look, and its plastic variant with punk, yellow, white, blue or green color options for the case. This device has almost the same specs as its brother, but it’s meant for the average consumer, which wants the logo on its smartphone, but it’s not willing to spend a lot of money on it. This model doesn’t have a Touch ID or a camera with too many features, but it’s a very useful phone for basic activities.
Display and design

The iPhone 5C has the same screen size as the 5S – 4inches with 640x1136pixels and 326ppi, but the major difference between this model and the 5S lies in the design. Jony Ive, Apple’s senior vice president of Design considers the 5C “unapologetically plastic” and for many people it’s hard to understand the company’s decision to suddenly downgrade to this cheap looking material, when they made only premium devices. But, the explication is that Apple wanted to surprise the audience with two distinctive smartphones: one that is created specially for high-end features enthusiasts and the second one is for the younger generation or for cool moms as well, who don’t really care about the power of the device and all they want to do is to take pictures and post them on social networking websites.

The iPhone 5C has more rounded edges because Apple couldn’t change the shape of the metal skeleton underneath it. But although many would say that plastic is associated with inferiority, our opinion is that the 5C looks a lot better than many other plastic and colorful smartphones which come with a higher price. The iPhone 5C competes with Nokia’s Lumia lineup, but the Apple handset is not that heavy and squarish.

Hardware and OS

The iPhone 5C offers a decent hardware performance. It’s not that powerful as the iPhone 5S which has an A7 chip, but the A6 does a nice job and the differences are minor. You won’t enjoy using the burst shooting mode or slow motion video capture, but don’t forget that this is a cheaper model and doesn’t come with all of its brother’s features. Both phones run on iOS 7 and Jony Ive made possible this harmonic combination between operating system and design. We’re really curious how the iOS 8 will run on this device, but we’re sure that we’ll continue to “feel color throughout the entire experience”, as Apple said when the iPhone 5C was launched.

We remind you that the iPhone 5C has an 8MP rear camera with features such as1/3.2” sensor size, 1.4µm pixel size, HDR panorama, simultaneous HD video and image recording, face detection, geo tagging, touch focus, HDR photo etc. The secondary camera is 1.2MP with face detection and video recording capabilities at 720p@30fp.
The phone has 1G of RAM and three unexpandable variants of internal memories: 8/16/32 GB. The battery is Li-Po non-removable and has the capacity of 1510mAh.

The iPhone 5C has densely packed Notification Center with an easier access to Control Center. There’s the iTunes Radio for music lovers, the speakers are very loud and you’ll notice that the volume buttons differ from the iPhone 5/5S. Overall, the phone is better than expected and if referring to the pricing, well, the 16Gb variant of the iPhone 5C costs 500 dollars, while the 16Gb variant of the iPhone 5S is 70 more expensive.
