iPad Mini 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 – Specifications and Pricing Comparison

The Apple iPad Mini 2 is the latest tablet offering designed to take advantage of the iPad Mini’s success.

It is already one of the popular tablets, despite having come out in November 2013. Samsung also introduced its third-generation Galaxy Tab device around the same period. The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is a tablet that may look like it is competing in a different segment because of its large screen, but it is priced lower than the iPad Mini 2.

Display

Like in the previous generation, the iPad Mini 2 offers the 7.9 inch display that offers a balance between screen size and portability in the best possible manner. Due to the lower screen size, Apple can do with only 1536 x 2048 pixels of resolution, which is significantly lower than the recent devices featuring QHD displays. Despite the low resolution, the iPad Mini 2 still offers a 324 PPI pixel density that makes it offer incredible detail. Despite possessing a 10.1 inch display, the experience offered by the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is somewhat inferior because of the 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. A pixel density of 149 PPI is offered by the Samsung product.

Memory

Samsung has always been extremely careful about offering their devices with brilliant memory options. The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is no different in this regard because it not only comes with sufficient internal storage but also has external memory card slots. The internal storage capacity varies between 16 GB and 32 GB depending upon the model chosen while the external memory card slot can support up to 64 GB. Apple has not offered external memory card support in its popular devices like tablets and mobile phones, but the company does offer up to 128 GB of internal storage on the iPad Mini 2. Of course, this variant will cost significantly more than the base 16 GB version.

Connectivity

Despite being a midrange tablet, Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 offers most of the connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot, and Wi-Fi direct. They should come in handy when the need arises to transfer huge files. The iPad Mini 2 also offers a similar set of features, but aspects like Wi-Fi hotspot and Wi-Fi direct are absent.

Camera

The iPad Mini 2 continues with the same 5 megapixel camera, albeit with a few alterations to improve the quality, which comes with features like full HD video recording. The absence of 4K video recording feature may not be a huge disadvantage considering the segment where it will be competing. The strength of the 5 megapixel camera on the iPad Mini 2 becomes apparent after looking at the quality of pictures and videos from the 3.15 megapixel camera on the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. Apart from 720p recording capability, this camera does not have many features.

The iPad Mini 2 with Wi-Fi connectivity and 16 GB internal storage retails at $350 while the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 of a similar specification in terms of internal storage retails at $320.
