The release of the iPad Mini 2 by Apple Incorporated has been a revelation.
The second-generation tablet released by the company shows the success story of its predecessor. However, one cannot deny the fact that it would put immense pressure on the company, as the new release had to be up to the standards maintained by the company. In fact, the new release had to be better than the previous generation device. On paper, the iPad Mini 2 tablet turns out to be a monster of a device. However, it has to compete with the likes of Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, to prove its worth.
Let us pit the iPad Mini 2 tablet against the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, to determine the better of the two tablets.
Design and Display
Comparing the two tablets for their design and display, the iPad Mini 2 would emerge a winner with its Retina Display. The iPad Mini 2 tablet is smaller in stature and breadth in comparison with the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. The Apple’s tablet measures 200mm in height and 134.7mm in width, as compared to 243.1mm of stature and 176.1mm of breadth of the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. The Apple’s tablet weighs 331 grams, which is much less than 510 grams weight of the Samsung tablet.
The Apple’s tablet encompasses a 7.9-inch Retina Display that comes with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels, offering 326-ppi of pixel density. On the other hand, the Samsung tablet comprises of a whooping 10.1-inch TFT screen, but with a poor resolution of 1280×800 pixels, which offers just 149-ppi of pixel density.
Hardware and Operating System
In terms of hardware and operating system, the iPad Mini 2 comes equipped with a 1.3GHz dual core Cyclone processor, supported with an Apple A7 chip. The tablet runs on the Apple’s iOS version 7, with an option to be upgraded to the iOS version 7.1.1 operating system.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 comprises of a 1.6GHz dual core processor that is supported by a chipset of Intel Atom Z2560. The Samsung tablet comes equipped with the Android based version 4.2.2, Jelly Bean operating system.
In terms of RAM, the iPad Mini 2 tablet comes with a 1GB DDR3 whereas; the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is equipped with 1GB of RAM.
Memory
In terms of memory, Apple’s tablet has earned the reputation of being an ultimate multimedia phablet. It offers an array of internal storage capacity options to the masses, suiting their requirements. The iPad Mini 2 tablet comes with a base variant of 16GB and ranges up to internal storage capacity up to 128GB. The iPad Mini 2 does not come equipped with an external memory enhancement slot.
On the other hand, the Tab 3 10.1 offers 16GB and 32GB of internal memory variants. However, the Samsung tablet does come equipped with an external memory card option for enhancing the tablets memory up to 64GB.
Camera and Price
In terms of camera specs, the iPad Mini 2 incorporates dual cameras – 5MP rear and 1.2MP front facing camera. In comparison, the Tab 3 10.1 comes with 3.15MP primary and 1.3MP front facing cameras.
The iPad Mini 2 camera comes with features like touch focus, autofocus, HD, face detection and full HD video recording.
In terms of price, the iPad Mini 2 would cost $399 as compared to the price of $380 of the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1.
Verdict
The Apple iPad Mini 2 tablet has better features and specs in comparison to that of the Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. In terms of price as well, there is not much of a difference, making iPad Mini 2 a logical choice for the masses.
