iPad Air vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 – Hands on Comparison

Two of the biggest names in the smartphone industry, Apple Incorporated and Samsung Electronics, have been fighting it out for the top spot in the smartphone arena for a long time.

Both these arch rivals have offered the masses with state of the art products, since they made their first appearance in the mobile industry. Samsung has become a renowned name in the smartphone industry. However, in the tablet department, the company has emerged only after an initial struggle.

Pitching the two tablets against each other, let us determine which is a better tablet between the Apple iPad Air and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

Design and Display

With respect to design and display, Apple retains the top spot with exceptional build quality and breathtaking design. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has been criticized for extensive use of plastic in its products. Both tablets come with same screen space. However, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1-inch screen has an edge over the iPad Air’s 9.7-inch screen.

Comparing the two tablets with respect to quality, Apple’s iPad Air comes with a 1536×2048 pixels resolution. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 comes equipped with a resolution of 800×1280 pixels. Apple’s iPad Air provides the user with superior web browsing, video watching and gaming experience.

Hardware

Comparing the two tablets in the hardware department, the iPad Air comes equipped with a powerful dual core 1.3GHz Apple A7 processor. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 comprises of an Android based dual core processor clocked at the speed of 1GHz. Regardless, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 caters the user with a completely different experience, when compared to the Apple’s tablet, the iPad Air. The iPad Air tablet operates flawlessly without harassing the user with unnecessary lags or delays, while opening various applications. However, the same cannot be said about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 phablet.

Camera and Battery Usage

Comparing the two devices for camera and battery usage, the iPad Air emerges a winner in both the departments. The iPad Air comes equipped with a 5MP camera. It covers several aspects such as autofocus, full HD video recording, face detection and video stabilization. Despite all this, the iPad Air does not come with an LED flash; we suppose that should be a handicap to the user. In comparison, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 comes equipped with 3.15MP sensor with a mere 720p resolution for video recording. In terms of front facing camera, the iPad Air wins again with 1.2MP as compared to the VGA camera on the Samsung’s tablet.

Similar is the case with the battery usage. The iPad Air tablet comes with a robust 8820 mAh battery unit. It definitely has an advantage over the 7000 mAh battery unit of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

Price

In terms of price, the Apple iPad Air is readily available at a price of $450 whereas, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 comes at a reasonable price of $200. The Apple Incorporated has never compromised in terms of price of its latest devices. In comparison, the Samsung Electronics is more of a people friendly manufacturer. The latter releases its latest devices at updated features and reasonable prices.
