Both Galaxy S5 and One M8 are popular Android phones of 2014, so they should surely stay on your checklist while trying to select a good Android smartphone. Both the phones were launched at almost the same time in 2014, with the S5 following the S4 and the HTC One M8 following the HTC One. Both the phones have high-end specifications.

User Interface Comparison

Both the phones have an overlay of Android 4.4 KitKat. In the case of the Galaxy S5, it is the TouchWiz user interface, whereas in case of the HTC One M8, it is the Sense 6 running over Android KitKat.

S5 – Cool Features

Some of the interesting features of the Galaxy S5 include the S Health applications, including the heart rate monitor. The phone also integrates with the Gear 2, the Gear 2 Neo and the GearFit watches. The My Magazine is another interesting feature of the S5, as it brings in social feeds from various social networking sites. Another useful feature is the Download Booster, which integrates the Wi-Fi abilities of the smartphone with the mobile data, so that files can be downloaded much faster, almost doubling downloading speeds.

HTC One M8 – Unique Features

The One M8 also comes with some unique features, such as the Motion Launch. It enables the use of various gestures for waking up the smartphone and each gesture is capable of a unique function. For instance, if you swipe from the right side, the conventional Android screen pops up, whereas a top swipe brings in the voice dial mode. Another interesting feature in the M8 is the feature of Dot View, which displays the time of the notifications along with the variety by means of translucent dots, so that you don’t need to flip it.

Display Screen

Both the M8 and the S5 come with high quality display screens with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 p. The HTC One M8 comes with a screen size of 5 inches compared to the 5.1 inches of the S5. The M8 offers high pixel density of 441 ppi compared to the 432 ppi of the S5, due to the smaller screen size. Both the screens make use of the OLED technology, offering sharp pictures.

Hardware Specs

The internal specs of both the phones are almost identical, with both being offered in the 16GB and the 32GB versions. Both come with an additional microSD card for increasing storage up to 128 GB. Scrolling, zooming, closing and opening apps offer the same experience in both the phones.

Battery Compared
