If you’re looking to buy a new handset, we have here a comparison between two very appealing options for you to figure out which one would be the better fit. The first is the HTC Desire 816 which was released in the month of May, and the second one is the HTC One E8 (also known as HTC One Ace) which was released this June. Keep reading to find out the differences between the two.

Display, Exterior and Size

The HTC One E8 is known as the plastic version of the HTC One M8, which means that HTC replaced the metallic cover of the M8 with a polycarbonate exterior case which doesn’t look bad at all. The change influenced the weight of the handset: the HTC One E8 is lighter (145 grams) than the HTC One M8 (160 grams). The display we see on the E8 is an IPS LCD model that measures 5 inches. This device can render a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and it shows off a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch.

The HTC Desire 816 also has a polycarbonate plastic look, the case having a nice combination of glossy and matte. This handset is heavier, weighing 165 grams but is actually thinner (0.31 inches) than the HTC One E8 (0.39 inches). The display seen on the Desire 816 is a bigger 5.5 inches display, which classifies as a Super LCD2 model – reminding us of LG’s G3 smartphone. The screen resolution is of 720 x 1280 pixels, while the pixel density is significantly smaller than its counterpart’s, at 267 pixels per inch.

Hardware, Software and Memory

The processor that powers the HTC One E8 is a Krait 400: quad core working at 2.3 GHz that is paired up with a Snapdragon 801 chipset from Qualcomm. This device supports 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage capacity (expandable via microSD card by up to 128 GB). The operating system the One E8 runs on is Android 4.4.2 KitKat (+HTC’s Sense 6.0 UI).

HTC equipped the Desire 816 with a Cortex A7 processor: a quad core working at 1.6 GHz that is paired up with a Snapdragon 400 chipset from Qualcomm. This device comes with less RAM (1.5 GB) as well as a smaller capacity when it comes to internal memory (8 GB). It’s a good thing that HTC made the expansion by up to 128GB available for this handset too. When it comes to OS, we see the same combination of Android 4.4.2 KitKat with HTC’s Sense 6.0 UI.

Camera and Battery

HTC gives both devices the same specs when it comes to camera and battery. The primary camera has 13 megapixels (with features like LED flash), while the secondary camera impresses at 5 megapixels.

As for battery, both smartphones house Li-Ion battery units with a capacity of 2600 mAh.
