HTC Desire 816 vs BlackBerry Z30 – Amazing Specifications, Prices and Features Comparison

The Desire 816 came at the beginning of this year, being considered a phablet because of the massive screen it has. There are other features and specs that must be taken into consideration when comparing this phone with the BlackBerry Z30, but in our opinion, the second phone offers a better hardware performance. If you’re looking for a phone with a better camera, than the Desire 816 is the right phone for you.

Displays, designs and sizes

The HTC Desire 816 has a bigger display, which is actually Super LCD2, but features the same resolution as BlackBerry Z30’s 5inches Super AMOLED screen. The difference lies in the pixel density, which stands at 267ppi on the Desire 816, while the Blackberry takes the crown with the 294ppi.

The exterior of the HTC Desire 816 is made of a polycarbonate plastic and has a glossy look and the corners feature a matte effect. The device weights 165grams and it’s 156.6mm tall, has a width of 78.7mm and it’s 7.9mm thick. The Blackberry Z30 is thicker, measuring 9.4mm, the length is of 140.7mm and it’s narrower at 72mm, but it weights 5grams more. It has a soft touch plastic back panel and the front features a metallic stripe at the bottom.

Hardware and OS

The Desire 816 comes with a quad core Cortex A7 processor whose clock speed was set to 1.6GHz. The CPU is backed by a Qualcomm MSM8928 Snapdragon 400 and couples with an Adreno 305 GPU and 1.5GB of RAM. The Blackberry Z30 has a newer Adreno GPU version, 320, the processor is dual core Krait clocked at 1.7GHz and the chipset is Qualcomm MSM8960T Pro Snapdragon. This phone hosts 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which is expandable up to 64GB, while the HTC phone has 8GB of internal storage, but it compensates with the possibility to expand it up to 128GB.

The Desire 816 runs on Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) OS, while the Blackberry Z30 comes loaded with the company’s BlackBerry 10.2 OS, which is upgradable to 10.2.1.

Cameras

The HTC Desire 816 beats its opponent with the 13MP rear camera, having some extra features such as touch focus and simultaneous HD video and image recording. The secondary camera is 5MP, more advanced than Blackberry Z30’s 2MP front camera. The back camera on this device is 8MP.

Batteries

The HTC handset carries a non removable Li-Po 2600mAh battery with which you can talk 21hours on 3G. The Blackberry Z30 houses a user replaceable Li-Ion 2880mAh battery with which you can talk approximately 18hours on 3G.

  •  Only the BlackBerry Z30 supports micro HDMI
  •  The Desire 816 supports nanoSIM cards, while the Blackberry model supports microSIM cards.
  •  Some Desire 816 variants also support dual-SIM.
  •  The Desire 816 is available in white, black, gray, green and red, while the BlackBerry Z30 is either white or black.

Prices

The HTC Desire 816 Dual SIM costs 335 dollars, while the 4G variant is priced at 458 dollars. The BlackBerry Z30 4G 16GB variant can be purchased from amazon.com at the price of 389 dollars.
