These are dual-SIM smartphones with similar features and specs, but because you’re asking our opinion and we’re “forced’ to pick a winner, after analyzing them carefully, we’ll choose the Desire 700, which comes with BoomSound Stereo speakers for a perfect sound quality. If you’re not interested in investing a lot of money on it, then buy the Xperia M2 which costs half the price.
Displays and sizes
Both phones have screens with a resolution of 540x960pixels which is above average. However, the Desire 700 has a display sized at 5inches, which supports a pixel density of 220ppi and has a layer of HTC Sense 5.0 on top. The phone weights 149grams and its dimensions are 145.5x72x10.3mm, so it’s not one of the slimmest and lightest smartphones from the market.
The Xperia M2 is only 1gram lighter while it measures 139.7×71.1×8.6mm. The 4.8inches TFT qHD display supports 229ppi and it’s protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 against scratches. Also, it supports multi touch up to four fingers.
Hardware and OS
These phones are running decently, being equipped with the same quad core 1.2GHz Cortex A7 processors, but they’re supported by different chipsets: the Desire 700 has a Spreadtrum Shark chipset teaming up with a Mali-400 GPU, while the Xperia M2 has two variants of chipsets – Qualcomm MSM8926 Snapdragon 400 and Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400, and uses an Adreno 305 GPU.
The similarities don’t stop here. Both phones have 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, but the maxim capacity supported by adding a microSD card is 64GB in the case of Desire 700, while the Xperia M2 allows expansion only up to 32GB. Plus, both phones come with compass, accelerometer and proximity sensors.
The Android versions these phones come with are 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) – Desire 700 and 4.3 (Jelly Bean), which will be upgraded to 4.4.2 (KitKat) – Xperia M2.
Both phones have rear cameras of 8MP with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, HDR etc. However, there are some features which are specific to each phone and we can consider the Desire 700’s camera a winner. Also, the secondary camera is better on this phone, because it is 2.1MP, while its rival has a VGA front camera.
The Desire 700 has a weaker battery, which is a Li-Po with the capacity of 2100mAh, but it allows a talk time on 3G of 11hours and 40minutes. The Xperia M2 has a non-removable Li-Ion 2300mAh battery which lasts 14hours and a half when talking only on 3G.
The Xperia M2 is priced at 312 dollars, while the Desire 700 is 300 dollars more expensive.
