Galaxy Grand Duos vs Grand 2 From Samsung – Pricing and Specifications Comparison

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos is Samsung’s attempt to offer a large touch screen display even in the mid-range smartphone segment.

This segment has been used to seeing phones offering around 4.3 inches of screen size. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos provides a whopping 5 inches. Its successor, the Galaxy Grand 2, goes one better by offering a 5.25-inch screen. Both these devices, then, rely a lot upon the display to work its magic.

Display

The Galaxy Grand Duos comes with TFT displays just as those seen on the Galaxy Grand 2. They do not employ any fancy technologies that increase the price of the phone. Instead, they concentrate on one element, offering the experience of a large screen.

The disadvantages of having a large display in a midrange phone become apparent in the pixel density stakes. Compared to the high-end phones that offer more than 400 PPI, the Galaxy Grand Duos offers only 187 PPI due to its low 480 by 800 pixels of resolution. The Galaxy Grand 2 rectifies this aspect by providing a 720p display, but because it increases the screen size even further, it makes only a limited impact.

Memory

The benefits of having such large displays enable the Galaxy Grand Duos and the Galaxy Grand 2 to be excellent as a multimedia companion. Even though they may offer only 8 GB of internal storage, additional memory can be added to the phone using microSD cards. The two phones will support up to 64 GB memory cards.

Connectivity

It is almost certain that a lot of multimedia content will be shared to and from this device. Recognizing the need for top-notch connectivity features, Samsung offers a very personal aspect on the Galaxy Grand 2. The phone will support extremely high data transfer speeds on the LTE network, while standard connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0, and micro-USB 2.0. The Galaxy Grand Duos, being a slightly older phone, lacks a few features like the ability to support more than 21 Mb per second in download speeds. The lack of LTE support may prove crucial in some markets.

Camera

The content need not be just shared from other devices, but the phone can create them as well. An eight-megapixel camera in the rear of the device takes care of the imaging needs. Both phones used a similar camera that only differs in features. Even then, the Galaxy Grand Duos already had a number of high-end features like full HD video recording, face detection, and image stabilization. It does not miss out on much and it is the case with the Galaxy Grand 2 as well.

Performance is provided by a dual core 1.2 GHz processor on the Galaxy Grand Duos, whereas the Galaxy Grand 2 utilizes a much more powerful quad core 1.2 GHz processor. Twice the clock speed means more performance on offer. The Galaxy Grand 2 retails at $301 whereas the Galaxy Grand Duos costs around $180 for the unlocked versions.
