1. Protecting your village
You must protect your village well in order to not lose the resources you have. Keep in mind that when you start playing this game you will get a 3 days free shield, which will avoid other players from attacking you. You will lose the shield in case you will attack another player, so try to do single player campaigns during this time and upgrade your village along the way. Upgrade your defensive buildings and create/upgrade your barracks and army camps.
2. Raiding
When you will start raiding, you will have no idea what to do and you will probably not use a strategy. However, as you gain more and more experience, you will get powerful enemies and you will have to start using some strategies in order to defeat them.
3. Offense or Defense?
Some recommend going fully offensive, some say that is better to have a good defense. While at a low level is good to go fully offensive, to gather resources faster, the problems will start when you will have to gather a lot of resources to upgrade a building. That’s because you will be constantly raided and you’ll lose the resources you gained until then. So yeah, go fully offensive at the beginning of the game, but you should balance offense and defense as your village get’s higher.
4. Getting three stars
You will want to always get three stars when raiding. To do this, you will have to destroy the entire village you are raiding.
5. Gems
This currency can be bought with real money only, so try to save as much Gems as you can and use them for your Builders Hut’s. Even if you may get some Gems by completing specific achievements or gather the trees or stones from your village, they are really hard to get.
