Blackberry Z3 vs Nokia XL – Top Specs and Price Comparison

In this article, we’re presenting two smartphones that run on two totally different operating systems. The Z3 is Blackberry’s third phone of the series, after Z10 and Z30, but although the hardware performance is better, the device has some problems syncing with Google. The Nokia XL is half price of the Z3, but the price reflects the reality.

Displays, designs and sizes

The Z3’s body is made of plastic but it has a premium look. On the right side, you’ll find the microSIM and microSD cards, while the rest of the buttons are located on the left side. The back of the phone is textured, and we really like it. The device has a 5inches display, but the resolution isn’t very high, 540x960pixels, while the pixel density stands at 220ppi. But wait a minute, it gets worse than that. The Nokia XL supports only 187ppi and the resolution is close to mediocre – 480x800pixels, but the screen has the same size and it’s IPS LCD. So, you’ll find it difficult to read texts. The phone’s design isn’t very impressive, either. It comes in many variants of colors for the shells, the SIM card and the micro SD card can be located under the back cover and on the right side of the device you’ll find the power keys.

The Blackberry model is lighter, weighting 164grams and its dimensions are 140×72.8×9.3mm, while the Nokia XL is 26grams heavier and it measures 141.4×77.7×10.9mm.

Hardware and OS

The Z3 is slightly faster thanks to its dual core 1.2GHz Krait 200 processor, based on a Qualcomm MSM8230 Snapdragon 400 chipset. The phone uses an Adreno 305 GPU, which is newer than Nokia XL’s Adreno 203 model. The second phone uses a dual core 1GHz Cortex A5 processor, which is backed by a Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon S4 Play chipset.

The Z3 runs on Blackberry 10.2.1 OS, which is upgradable to 10.3 OS and has 8GB of ROM, expandable up to 32GB and 1.5GB of RAM, from which 500MB are available for apps. The Nokia XL comes with only 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, but you can obtain up to 32GB using a microSD card, and it runs on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) OS + Nokia X platform 1.0 UI on top of it. Both phones have in common accelerometer and proximity sensors.

Cameras

Both smartphones have 5MP rear cameras with autofocus and LED flash. But each phone has other different features as well. The Z3 offers geo tagging and video recording capabilities at 1080p, while the Nokia XL has face detection, panorama, 1/4” sensor size and it records videos at 480p@30fps. The Blackberry phone has a weaker secondary camera – 1.1MP, while the Nokia handset is equipped with a 2MP camera on the front.

Batteries

The Z3 has also a more powerful battery, Li-Ion 2500mAh, which allows up to 15hours and 30 minutes of talktime, but it’s non-removable. The Nokia XL, on the other hand, has a user-replaceable Li-Ion 2000mAh battery with which you can talk 13hours on 3G.

Prices

Both of phones can be purchased from amazon.com. The Z3 costs 290 dollars and the Nokia XL is priced at 145 dollars.
