Asus is trying to specialize in smartphones, too, but there’s a long way to the top. The ZenFone 5 is a great phone, but not as great as other rivals, such as Nexus 5. But we’re comparing them, just in case you’re interested in buying one of them.
Displays and sizes
The Zenfone 5 has a 5inches IPS display with a resolution of 720x1280pixels and 294ppi and a metallic finish under the screen, while the back has a plastic matte look. The dimensions of this phone are 148.2×72.8×10.34mm and it weights 145grams. Nexus 5’s display is 4.95inches, it’s True HD IPS+ and it supports a higher resolution – 1080x1920pixels, while the pixel density sits at 445ppi. Like the Zenfone 5, it has a screen protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, but the body is smaller, measuring 137.9×69.2×8.6mm. Also, it’s lighter at 130grams.
Hardware and OS
The Zenfone 5 is powered either by a dual-core processor clocked at 2GHz, or a dual-core clocked at 1.6GHz, based on an Intel Atom chipset, and it uses a PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU. It has accelerometer, proximity and compass sensors, two variants of internal memories – 8 and 16GB, expandable up to 64GB and 1GB or 2GB of RAM, depending on the version. Also, it runs on the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) OS, which is upgradeable to v4.4.2 (KitKat).
The Nexus 5 has a more powerful processor, which is quad core Krait 400, clocked at 2.3GHz, but the chipset is Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 and the GPU is Adreno 330. The phone has in addition gyro and barometer sensors, but the internal memories at fixed at 8 and 16GB. The device is running on a newer Android version, 4.4 (KitKat), but it can be upgraded to v4.4.4 (KitKat), and it has 2GB of RAM.
Cameras
Both devices have rear cameras of 8MP, but the Nexus 5 has more features (optical image stabilization, touch focus, face detection, HDR, photo sphere and dual recording). Also, both of the cameras record videos at 1080p@30fps. The secondary camera on the Zenfone 5 is 2MP, while the Nexus 5 has a weaker front camera – 1.3MP.
Batteries
Both of the devices are equipped with Li-Po non removable batteries, but the Zenfone 5’s battery has a lower capacity – 2110mAh. Even though, it lasts 18 hours and a half when talking on 3G. The Nexus 5’s battery, on the other hand has 2300mAh, but it lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes lesser.
Prices
The Zenfone 5 is priced at 222 dollars, while the Nexus 5 costs double.
