Acer Liquid S1 vs Acer Liquid S2 vs Xiaomi Mi3 – Best Specs and Price Comparison

The smartphone market is full of high-end devices that offer impressive specifications bundled with the newest features. The majority of these smartphones come from established brands that made a name for themselves in the market, but there are also upcoming brands that surprise users with devices that can stand up to the flagships put out by the tech giants. Such brands are Acer and Xiaomi. Through the release of the Acer Liquid S2, Acer wants to get a seat at the big goy’s table, just as Xiaomi intended with the release of their device, the Xiaomi Mi3. Both these handsets offer competitive specifications and features and are a great alternative to the pricy high-end devices put out by the likes of Samsung, LG or HTC. Today we’ll be comparing the Acer Liquid S1, Liquid S2 and Xiaomi Mi3.

Display

The display size of the Acer Liquid S2 is 6 inches, making it the device with the biggest screen, while on the other end we have the Xiaomi Mi 3 which takes the prize for smallest screen, with its 5 inches of display real estate. The Acer Liquid S1, although an older model of the Liquid line, has a bigger display then the Xiaomi Mi3, 5.7 inches to be more exact. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi3 offers a 1080p resolution for its display, just like the Liquid S2, while the Liquid S1 only puts up a 720p resolution. The situation reverses when it comes to pixel density, as the Xiaomi Mi3 takes the clear lead with 441 ppi. On second position with a 367 ppi pixel density is the Liquid S2, while the 258 ppi pixel density places the Liquid S1 in last position.

Processor

The Xiaomi maintains its first position through its Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, clocked at 2.3 GHz. The Liquid S2 also has a Snapdragon 800 processor, but it is clocked a little lower than the Mi3, at 2.2 GHz, and it is also an older model than the one featured in the Xiaomi device. The Mi3 also comes in a TD-SCDMA variant that uses a 1.8 GHz Tegra 4 processing unit. The Liquid 1 has the weakest processor, a 1.5 GHz MediaTek.quad core unit.

Memory

It’s time to determine who has the most memory, and guess who’s trailing again? That’s right, the Acer Liquid S1 comes in last once again with just 1 GB of RAM, while its successor, the Liquid S2, and the Xiaomi Mi3 each feature 2 GB of RAM. In terms of internal memory, both devices feature at least 16 GB, while the Liquid S1 is left with only 8 GB. The Xiaomi handset also offers a 32 GB version, but it only balances out the fact that it is the only device out of the three that does not come with support for microSD.

Camera

The Acer Liquid S1 has an 8 MP rear camera, and VGA camera in the front. These numbers just aren’t enough to put it in the same league as the Liquid S2 and Xiaomi Mi3, which feature 13 MP each for the rear facing lens, while in the front, they both rock 2 MP. The Liquid S2 is also the first smartphone to support 4K recording.

Operating System

The two devices manufactured by Acer are running Google’s Android operating system. Both of them come with support for the JellyBean version of Android, while the Mi3 drifted away from the standard path for smartphones, and decided to take a slightly different approach on the OS, thus it is currently running MIUI V5 (which, however, is based on Android JellyBean).

Connectivity

The Liquid S2 sets itself apart from its competitors for today by being the only one that provides 4G LTE support. Other than that, all three smartphones come with the standard connectivity functions like WiFi, Bluetooth, USB, etc.

Price

On Amazon.com, you can get the Liquid S1 for around $600, while the S2 is about $700. The Mi3 is cheaper, only around $430.
