Easy Installation and Setup
Viber is messaging software with new upgrades that span both PCs and mobile devices. It is a sleek app that is very easy to use. If you want to use the application on your desktop, you need a mobile account with Viber to set up the PC version. All versions of Viber are free to use. Once you install the app from the Play Store in your mobile device, you have to allow access to your contacts, so that the app is able to view which of your contacts has the app on their devices. After allowing access, you need to select your country and enter your mobile number and then Continue. Your verification code will appear through a message sent to your phone. You can use this number for setting up the account and your profile on the app.
Sending Messages and Making Calls
After installing and setting up your account, you can view your contacts list on Viber and see which one of them is using Viber. The Person Icon is found on the top portion of the application. The list of contacts appears in the alphabetical order. You can use the Magnifying Glass Icon for better searching and finding contacts whom you want to call or send messages. Instant messaging is offered just like in other applications. There is a Notification bar, where you can view notifications and alerts about messages received. The Phone icon is present on the top of the application and this can be clicked on, for making calls.
Call Transfers
However, you can make free calls only to contacts, using Viber on their device. You can also make paid calls to contacts not having Viber app on their phone, if they are in your contact list. The version they are using, makes no difference, such as iOS Viber or PC Viber or Android Viber. The visual display is very simple with options of a regular call, a mute icon; a hold icon; and a speaker icon. There is also a transfer feature that allows you to transfer your Viber account to a desktop version. By using this feature, you can receive the call on your desktop Viber app. If you answer the call on the desktop, the call on the mobile device ends and moves on to the PC. You can also transfer it back to the mobile device.
Doodles and other Updates on Viber
Doodles, a very popular feature on Snapchat, is also now available for Viber in Android devices and will soon be coming for iOS devices as well. This means that you can send drawings along with improved photographs, to your contacts through Viber. You can paint over the photographs before sharing. Viber has also brought in other updates, such as knowing when friends have viewed your messages; support for Windows and Mac desktops; performance improvements and fixes for bugs.
Pros and Cons
Viber is a very simple and straightforward free application for messaging and making calls, both locally and internationally. In addition to this, you can also send video clippings and photographs to your contacts. There are also many stickers and emoticons available for livening your chats. Group messaging is also possible with a maximum of 100 contacts. The Hold and Talk feature is also a very useful one in this app.; there is also no need of remembering your password before launching it. The app also offers you notifications about the contacts that are on Viber.
However, at times, there are some reception problems. In addition, your contacts must have the application. Otherwise, you will not be able to make a free call.
