Sony Xperia SP vs Sony Xperia Z – Top Prices and Specs Comparison

If you want to buy a Sony smartphone but you cannot decide between the Xperia SP and the Xperia Z, here’s a comparison between the two devices to help you figure out which one you’re most fond of.

Design and Display

The display we see featured on the Sony Xperia SP is a TFT model that measures 4.6 inches and that can render a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The device weighs 155 g and comes with the following dimensions: 130.6 x 67.1 x 10 mm.

Sony equipped the Xperia Z with a TFT display as well but this one is a little larger (5 inches). The resolution rendered on this device is superior to the one on the SP: 1080 x 1920 pixels. This device is lighter, weighing 146 g, and also thinner than the previous handset (dimensions: 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm).

Operating System and Hardware

The processor that powers the Xperia SP is a dual core (Krait) working at 1.7 GHz which is paired up with a Snapdragon MSM8960T chipset from Qualcomm. The device supports 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage capacity (if you use a microSD card, you can expand your memory by up to 32GB). This handset runs on Android Jelly Bean.

The Sony Xperia Z is powered by a quad core (Krait) processor that works at 1.5 GHz. The device has two options for chipset: either the MDM9215M or the APQ8064 model, both from Qualcomm. This handset has a bigger RAM capacity (2 GB) and comes with 16GB of internal memory (the memory is expandable via microSD card by up to 64GB). The Xperia Z also runs on Android Jelly Bean.

Sony invested more in Xperia Z’s camera specs, rather than the Xperia SP. The Xperia Z has a 13.1MP rear-facing camera (autofocus + LED flash) and a front-facing camera of 2.2 MP.

The Sony Xperia SP has an 8MP main camera (autofocus + LED flash) and a VGA type of secondary camera.

Sony’s Xperia Z has a Li-Ion 2330 mAh battery unit which is estimated to last around 14 hours of talking time (3G).
