Samsung Galaxy S5 vs iPhone 5S – Comparison of Specs and Features

The iPhone 5S has claimed the top spot in the smartphone cutthroat competition.

The smartphone is extremely popular with the masses. The release of Samsung Galaxy S5 has definitely given the Apple iPhone S5 a run for its money. The Galaxy S5, released in 2014 is posing a tough competition to the 2013 released iPhone 5S. Both these smartphones are top competitors with the biggest difference being their operating systems. However, the Galaxy S5 is the latest launch and it does count a lot.

Screen

The iPhone 5S supports a 4 inches IPS LCD multi touchscreen having a resolution of 1136×640 pixels and a density of 326-ppi. It surely is a great screen but not as good as the S5’s 5.1 inches Super AMOLED Full HD display with a pixel density of 432-ppi.

Design

When it comes to design, Apple iPhone 5S is incomparable. The aluminium and glass back of the iPhone 5S looks awesome. However, it has a similar design as that of the iPhone 5.

The S5 does not stand a chance against the iPhone 5S in terms of design. However, the S5 supports a plastic back as that of its predecessor. The design is attractive and has a solid feel.

Operating System

This is by far the biggest difference between these two smartphones. The iPhone 5S comes equipped with an iOS 7 operating system. This new and updated operating system is intuitive and efficient. It is as easy as operating the older versions.

In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S5 comes equipped with a version 4.4 KitKat Android operating system. The device comes with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. The operating system of the S5 may not be as appealing as the iOS 7. However, the Android is open and easily customized.

Processor

The iPhone 5S makes use of the company’s 1.3GHz 64-bit dual core A7 processor paired with 1GB of RAM. This updated processor incorporating a 64-bit chip ensures that the device functions quicker than its predecessors. It surely gives a tough competition to the high-end Android devices.

A quad core 2.5 GHz Krait chipset paired with 2GB RAM for better performance powers the S5.

Features

Keeping the 64-bit processor aside, the reason for iPhone 5S’ popularity is its Touch ID fingerprint scanner. This feature also adds up to an enhanced security feature in the iPhone 5S. It has also replaced the monotonous password typing security feature. The M7 co-processor enabling the fitness tracker feature also adds up to the popularity of the iPhone 5S.

The S5 on the other hand, includes the company’s own fingerprint scanner, enhanced S health application and a heart rate monitor. The smartphone also boasts of an IP67 certified water and dust resistant feature.

Both these high-end smartphones are designed for users falling in two categories, the one who want the finest phone in their hands and the ones who have plenty of cash to spare. However, the Galaxy S5 is a better prospect in comparison to the iPhone 5S on papers. The smartphone is likely to tempt a majority of masses except the dedicated iPhone users.
