Almost a year after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, the company introduced the Galaxy S5 Mini smartphone.

The smartphone industry has started the trend of releasing the mini version of its successful flagship smartphone. Treading on similar lines, Samsung has launched the Galaxy S5 Mini that is smaller and less expensive than the Galaxy S5 smartphone. Let us compare the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini to the Galaxy S5 Mini in terms of their features and specifications.
Build and Design
The Galaxy S4 Mini and the Galaxy S5 Mini are the smaller versions of the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S5 smartphones respectively. However, the Galaxy S5 Mini is larger in comparison to its predecessor, the Galaxy S4 Mini. The difference is not much when it comes to height and width, but a difference nonetheless. The dimensions of S5 Mini measures 65mm x 131mm in comparison to 61mm x 125mm of height and width of the S4 Mini. In terms of weight and thickness, the S5 Mini weighs 120 grams and is 9.1mm thick in comparison to the 107 grams weight and 8.9mm thickness of the S4 Mini.
The S5 Mini comes in a variety of color options – black, white, blue and gold. The S5 Mini comes in a plastic body with IP67 certification that makes it dust and water-resistant, not the feature available in the S4 Mini smartphone.
Screen
The bigger body of the S5 Mini is mainly because of its 4.5 inches screen in comparison to the 4.3 inches display of the S4 Mini smartphone. The resolution of the S5 Mini has also been upgraded to HD 720 x 1280 pixels in comparison to the qHD 540 x 960 pixels of the S4 Mini smartphone. This also means that the pixel density of the S5 Mini would be better at 326-ppi in comparison to the 256-ppi pixel density of the S4 Mini smartphone. However, both these smartphones come equipped with Samsung’s Super AMOLED display screen.
Software
The Android based version 4.3 Jelly Bean powers the Galaxy S4 Mini smartphone. The smartphone is likely to be upgraded to version 4.4 KitKat operating system. In comparison, the Galaxy Mini S5 comes with KitKat pre-loaded and updated TouchWiz UI.
Processor, Memory and Storage
The Galaxy S4 Mini has 1.7GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU and 1.5GB RAM. The RAM is similar in the S5 Mini smartphone; however; the device comes with a quad core 1.4GHz processor with an Exynos chip. The S5 Mini smartphone is expected to offer enhanced performance than that of the S4 Mini smartphone.
The S4 Mini comes with an internal storage capacity of 8GB. There is definitely an upgrade in the storage department as the S5 Mini smartphone comes with 16GB, double the storage capacity than that of the S4 Mini smartphone. However, both the smartphones support external memory card slot for expanding memory up to 64 GB.
Features
The S5 Mini smartphone comes with two new features, heart rate monitor and the fingerprint scanner. This is similar to the Galaxy S5 smartphone.
These two features might swing your decision to purchase S5 Mini smartphone. However, other features such as new software, better components, water and dust-resistant design and more storage, would persuade you to buy the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini smartphone.
