Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini vs. Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini – Comparing Specifications

Samsung has been busy recently with its latest updated smartphone releases in the market.

The company has released a plethora of handsets, one after another regularly into the market, creating a competition within themselves. Let us compare the two smartphones from the Galaxy Mini smartphone series – the S4 Mini and the S5 Mini. Do not be under the misconception that the term ‘mini’ means small. The Mini smartphone series comes with a not-so-mini smartphones that offers state of the art specs and features.

The not so miniature smartphone, the Galaxy Mini S5 released by the Samsung Electronics caters an affordable alternative to the Galaxy S5 smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is rumored to be not coming within the mid-range section as compared to its predecessor. However, the device comes equipped with similar features as that of the Samsung’s flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5. Let us compare the galaxy S4 Mini against the Galaxy S5 Mini for its features and specs to determine the one that is better out of the two smartphones.

Design and Dimensions

The Galaxy S4 Mini measures 125mm x 61mm x 8.9mm and weighs 107 grams.

The Galaxy S5 Mini measures 131mm x 65mm x 9.1mm and weighs 120 grams.

The S4 Mini smartphone was criticized for not being a miniature version. The critics would be pleased to hear the dimensions of the S5 Mini smartphone. The S5 Mini is taller, chunkier and even heavier than its counterpart, the S4 Mini smartphone.

However, the larger S5 Mini is a better-looking smartphone than the S4 Mini handset. The S5 Mini comes with a similar design as that of the Galaxy S5 smartphone. The device is also equipped with features such as fingerprint scanner, heart rate monitor and the IP67 certification. The S4 Mini comes with no such features as that of the S5 Mini smartphone.

Screen

The Galaxy S4 Mini has 4.3 inch screen with 540 x 960 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 256-ppi.

The Galaxy S5 Mini has 4.5 incs screen with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 326-ppi.

Apparently, the Galaxy S5 Mini comes with a better screen resolution and pixel density on an enhanced 4.5 inch display. This is definitely an improvement in the S5 Mini’s display as compared to that of the S4 Mini smartphone.

Performance

Galaxy S4 Mini comes with a 1.7GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor.

Galaxy S5 Mini comes with a 1.4GHz quad core processor.

The company has yet to reveal the processor used inside the Galaxy S5 Mini smartphone. However, the users could expect a quad core chip running at a speed of 1.4GHz. This is expected to reveal noticeable performance improvements in comparison to the Galaxy S4 Mini 1.7GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor.

Operating System

Galaxy S4 Mini runs on Android version 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung Touchwiz UI.

Galaxy S5 Mini runs on Android version 4.4 KitKat with Samsung Touchwiz UI.

The Galaxy S5 Mini comes with the latest version of the Google’s Android operating system offering better performance, as compared to the S4 Mini handset, which the company plans to upgrade to KitKat.

Battery and Storage

Galaxy S4 Mini comes equipped with a 1900 mAh battery and 8GB internal storage capacity, expandable up to additional 64GB through microSD card.

Galaxy S5 Mini comes equipped with a 2100 mAh battery and 16GB storage capacity, expandable up to additional 64GB through microSD card.

In comparison to its predecessor, the Galaxy S5 Mini caters enhancements when it comes to both battery and internal storage capacity. The smartphone packs a 2100 mAh standard battery as compared to the Samsung Galaxy S4′s 1900 mAh battery. Samsung has not yet specified battery life expectancy of the S5 Mini device. However, it would certainly offer enhanced battery life to the users.
