Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini vs Grand Neo – Pricing and Specifications Compared
The competition in the mid-range smartphone segment is extremely intense, especially because of the different philosophies adopted within each company. This is especially true in the case of Samsung. The expansive product range of the company has been further expanded, only recently, following the addition of Grand Neo. It will be competing against the S4 Mini, which is a smaller version of the 2013 flagship – Galaxy S4.
The S4 Mini is just a smaller version of the Galaxy S4 and this becomes quite evident from the instant one holds the phone. Apart from the 4.3 inch display that has been used to reduce the size, the S4 Mini shares most of its parts with the bigger cousin. The Grand Neo, meanwhile, offers everything that one would expect from a mid-range smartphone, but its standout feature will be the 5 inch display.
In terms of size, this display will be able to compete with the Galaxy S4. However, it sadly loses out in the resolution department where it offers only 480 x 800 pixels. This will make the pixels quite visible in some areas and it cannot be compared with a high-end smartphone. However, users purchasing this phone will find little to complain, since this device offers something that not many phones provide in the market nowadays – such a big screen at this price.
In addition, the Grand Neo also does its cost-cutting exercises in the camera where only a five megapixel camera is utilized. This camera also does not come with features like full HD video recording. Only 720p video recording is possible on this camera. The Galaxy S4 Mini also comes in with cost-cutting measures in this regard, as it offers only an eight megapixel camera compared with the 13 megapixel unit present in the Galaxy S4.
However, this is the only sore point in the camera segment since it comes with every other high-end features like full HD video recording. It even has a very good 1.9 megapixel front facing unit as well.
Users nowadays expect the latest android operating system to be present in the phone irrespective of the price. This puts phones like the Galaxy Grand Neo and the Galaxy S4 Mini at a constraint, but the powerful processors in both these devices do a good job of ensuring that the phone does extremely well in this regard. The Galaxy Grand Neo is the better equipped amongst the two devices, as it comes with a quad core 1.2 GHz processor. This is substantially powerful – at least on paper – than the dual core 1.7 GHz unit on the Galaxy S4 Mini.
Battery life is slightly better in the Galaxy S4 Mini since it features in 1900 mAh battery on its 4.3 inch display. The Galaxy Grand Neo uses a much larger display, but it offers only 2100 mAh unit.
The Galaxy S4 Mini is a slightly pricier device and it comes at $300. The Galaxy Grand Neo offers almost a similar set of features at $230.
