Nokia and Samsung have always been rivals and tried to make low cost smartphones with high performances. But while Samsung prefers its devices to run on Android OS, Nokia is using Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS for most of its devices. And the Lumia 920 was among the first phones from its family to run on the WP. If the operating system is important for you, you should consider also the other specs and features of each of these phones.
Nokia Lumia 920
Displays, Design and Sizes
The Nokia model features an IPS LCD display with the size of 4.5inches, which supports a resolution of 768x1280pixels and a pixel density of 322ppi. You’ll be satisfied with the accurate and vivid colors provided by this screen. As for the aspect of this phone, the Lumia 920 is one of the prettiest smartphones thanks to the variety of colorful panels. It’s easy to grip although it’s not a slim phone, measuring 130.3×70.8×10.7 mm and weighting 185grams. When using it extensively, it can become kind of tiresome to the hand.
Hardware and OS
Even if it was released two years ago, the Lumia 920 has some outstanding specs. It features a 1.5GHz dual-core Krait processor, which is backed up by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and it has an Areno 225 GPU. It hosts 1GB of RAM and has an internal storage of 32GB, but it doesn’t support a Micro SD card slot for expansion. The phone comes loaded with Windows Phone 8, which is upgradeable to the 8.1 version, so you’ll be able to play many on it some of the latest released games.
Camera
The phone has an 8Mp rear camera with which you’ll take good quality pictures, although the device lacks HDR and other modern features. Battery

Samsung Galaxy S3
Displays, Design and Sizes
The Galaxy S3 has a bigger display (4.8inches), which is Super AMOLED, but it renders a slightly lower resolution than the Lumia 920 – 720x1280pixels. The pixel density is also lower – 306, but the lighting environment doesn’t seem to affect the quality of the colors or the contrast.
The Galaxy S3 is the first phone from its family to come with a different design, having a reduced outside panel and a bigger display. It’s much slimmer than the Lumia 920, measuring 136.6×70.6×8.6mm, and it’s also lighter, weighting 133grams.
Hardware and OS
The Galaxy S3 is a very powerful smartphone compared to other devices from its generation. It features a 1.4GHz quad core Cortex A9 CPU, which is coupled with an Exynos 4412 Quad chipset and a Mali-400MP GPU. It has 16/32/64GB of internal storage (the first two variants are expandable up to 64GB) and it runs on the Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) OS – upgradeable to the 4.3 (Jelly Bean) version, having 1GB of RAM.
Camera
Like the Lumia 920, the Galaxy S3 has an 8MP rear camera with many useful features, but it lacks HDR, although it supports video recording at 1080p and 30fps. The 1.9MP front camera provides an excellent video conferencing because it records, as well, at 720p and 30fps.
Battery
The Galaxy S3 could have had a more powerful battery, but its capacity of 2100mAh is good enough to support up to 10 hours of talk time. When used excessively, the phone lasts 6 hours and in standby mode, it withstands 790hours.
