Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo – Price, Features and Specs Comparison

Samsung was the first company that managed to combine a tablet and a smartphone, to create the perfect “phablet” and ever since they released the first Galaxy Note, they managed to include more and more unique and useful features, but the handsets weren’t accessible to the middle class buyers. So, in order to cover this segment of the market, Samsung released a cheaper version of the Note 3, being known as the Galaxy Note 3 Neo. Now, everybody can afford to buy a high-end phablet at a decent price. Here’s a comparison between the two devices.

Displays, designs and sizes

Currently, the Note 3 is Samsung’s most powerful phablet on the market, and it’s also bigger than the Neo version, having a display of 5.7inches, with a resolution of 1080x 1920pixels and 386ppi. The Note 3 Neo has a 5.5inches display, which uses the same Super AMOLED technology, but it supports a lower screen resolution – 720x1280pixels and only 267ppi.

On the outside, the Note 3 is very similar to its sibling, having faux leather on the back, a thin bezel and a metal-like side rim. Plus, the camera is smaller and less prominent.

In terms of dimensions, the original Note 3 measures 151.2×79.2×8.3mm and it weights 168grams, being almost 6grams heavier than the Note 3 Note, which measures 148.4×77.4×8.6mm.

Hardware and OS

The Note is available in two variants: one with a Snapdragon 800 CPU and the other one with an Exynos 5 Octa 5420 chipset. The Note 3 Neo combines the Exynos 5260 chipset with a quad core 1.3GHz Cortex A7&dual core 1.7GHz Cortex A15 CPU. As for the GPU, the Note 3 is using Adreno 330 and Mali-T628 MP6, while the Note 3 Neo comes with Mali-T624. The 3G variant of the Note 3 Neo is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8228 Snapdragon 1.6Ghz quad-core processor.

The Note 3 Neo has 2GB of RAM, while its sibling has 3GB of RAM. While the Note 3 has three variants of internal memories – 16,32 and 64GB (the first two ones being expandable up to 64GB), the Note 3 Neo has only a variant of built in storage, which is of 16GB, also expandable up to 64GB.

The Note 3 originally came loaded with Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) OS but it received an upgrade to the 4.4.2 (KitKat) version. The Note 3 Neo is currently stuck with the 4.3 (Jelly Bean) version, but it has the same TouchWiz UI so you’ll have the same features found on the Note 3 as well – Air View, Air Gestures, Calendar, Gallery apps etc. The Note 3 Neo promises to offer the same S Pen experience.

Cameras

The Note 3 sports a 13MP shooter with autofocus, dual shot, geo tagging, simultaneous HD video and image recording, face and smile detection, HDR, image stabilization, panorama but it lacks optical image stabilization. Though, this camera does a really nice job. The Note 3 Neo took a step back and came with an 8Mp primary camera which uses HDR, panorama, LED flash and has some decent video recording capabilities. Both of the phablets have secondary cameras with the same resolution – 2MP.

Batteries

There’s a small difference of capacity between the two phablets. While the Note 3 features a 3200mAh battery which allows up to 21hours of talk time on 3G, the Note 3 Neo has a 3100mAh battery which allows you to talk 18hours on 3G.
