Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 vs Galaxy S4 Mini – Price and Specs Comparison

In 2013, Samsung released the second generation of Grand smartphones and a miniature variant of the Galaxy S4. The devices are spectacular and offer exactly what you’re expecting from a high end smartphone. So, take a look at their specs and take the right decision in case you will want to purchase one of these Samsung models.

Displays and Sizes

The Galaxy Grand 2 has a much bigger display, with the size of 5.2inches. It’s a TFT screen with the resolution of 720x1280pixels and 280ppi, while the S4 Mini has a 4.3inches Super AMOLED display with a lower resolution – 540x960pixels and a pixel density of 246ppi. The S4 Mini’s display is protected from scratches by Gorilla Glass 2.

The Grand 2 has these dimensions: 146.8×75.3×8.9mm and it weights 163grams. The S4 Mini feels perfectly in your hand because it weights only 108grams, and it measures 124.6×61.3×8.9 mm.

Hardware and OS

The Quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, coupled with the Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset and the Adreno 305 GPU from the Grand 2 is a wise combination that allows multitasking. The S4 has a Dual-core Krait, instead of a Quad-core Cortex A7 processor, but it’s clocked at 1.7GHz.

Both of the models come with 8GB of internal storage (5GB user available on the S4 Mini) which can be expanded up to 64GB.

The Grand 2 comes loaded with Android v4.3 (Jelly Bean) OS – which is upgradable to the 4.4.2 (KitKat) version, while the S4 Mini is running on the Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) version, which can be upgraded to the 4.3 (Jelly Bean) version. Both models have 1.5GB of RAM.


There isn’t a significant difference regarding the camera features for both of the smartphones. They share an 8MP rear camera with 3264 x 2448 pixels, LED flash, autofocus, but only the S4 features HDR and panorama. Also, the secondary camera on both devices is 1.9MP.


Both phones have removable batteries, but Grand 2’s battery has a higher capacity – 2,600mAh, which allows you to talk 17hours on 3G, while the S4 Mini comes with a 1,900mAh battery which allows a talk time of 12hours, on 3G.

Other specs

Both phones support Dual-SIM and Micro-SIM. The Grand 2 is available in the following colors: white, black and pink, while the S4 Mini comes in black, white and red.


The Grand 2 costs 305 dollars on The S4 Mini is 5 dollars cheaper.


The S4 Mini is the right phone for those who don’t perform multiple tasks in the same time.
