Nokia Lumia 925 vs Nexus 4 – Pricing and Specifications Compared

The Nokia Lumia 920 is a phone that showed the true capabilities of the Windows operating system, but it was not the perfect phone by any means.

It had a lot of flaws and this resulted in Nokia coming out with the Lumia 925 to take care of those issues. One of the phones that it competes against in the smartphone segment is the Nexus 4, an offering from Google.

Design

The Lumia 925 looks very much similar to the previous version and this is because Nokia found no reason to replace the design, which had won rave reviews. However, the Lumia 920 struggled with a weight problem as it came in at 185 g compared to several high-end smartphones from Samsung that weighed around 140 g. The Lumia 925 corrects this aspect and it weighs just 139 g. This is similar to the Nexus 4 weight.

Display

The Nexus 4, though, has a different style and philosophy that some may find more attractive than the Nokia device. The phone is slightly curved and it has the presence of touchscreen buttons inside the screen. The Lumia 925 offers touch sensitive buttons outside the screen. Because of this arrangement, it can be said that the 4.5-inch display of the Lumia 925 offers more real estate than the Nexus 4’s 4.7-inch display. Only during aspects like video playback and gaming do those touchscreen controls disappear from the Nexus 4 display.

Just as both phones come with different screen sizes, they also rely upon different technologies for the display. The Lumia 925 offers the AMOLED display that has done its job in several Nokia phones until now, while Nexus 4 offers the True HD IPS Plus display technology. Since the Nexus 4 is manufactured by LG, it is not surprising to see the same technology present in a number of high-end phones from LG.

Operating System

A key area of difference between the two phones comes in the operating system with the Nokia opting for the Windows Phone 8 OS. The Nexus 4 carried the latest version of the android operating system, being a work of Google, into the market in 2013. Despite being almost 12 months since the phone came into the market, the nexus phone can be expected to receive the latest updates of the android OS for a considerable period. Microsoft now owns Windows and because the mobile version has been optimized to run even on lower end phones, it is quite possible that the Lumia 925 will receive a number of future updates as well.

Processor

The Lumia 925 has a dual core 1.5 GHz processor at its heart and it is supported by the Adreno 225 GPU. The Nexus 4 is a very powerful phone compared to those specifications, as it has a quad core 1.5 GHz processor along with Adreno 320 GPU.

Price

Priced at just $310 for the unlocked version, the Lumia 925 represents excellent value for money. The Nexus 4 is available for around $280.
