Nexus 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S4 – Comparison of Features and Specifications

The release of the Galaxy S5 from Samsung Electronics pushed the Galaxy S4 price down to match that of the Nexus 5.

Both the Google Nexus 5 and the Samsung’s Galaxy S4 now come in a range that can be easily affordable by the masses looking for high-end smartphones. Both the devices offer a plethora of state of the art features. However, both these devices offer the buyers dissimilar user experience. Design

The S4 continued the spate of devices from Samsung Galaxy series with a plastic backing. However, the same has been replaced by artificial leather back in the company’s latest variants. In comparison, the Nexus 5 comes in a standard plastic matte body and design. The device comes in three-color options – black, white and red.

Both the devices are solid in their build but have a different style. The Galaxy S4 comes with a chrome border surrounding the bezel whereas the Nexus 5 has a matte plastic casing. However, the Nexus 5 provides a better grip in comparison to the Galaxy S4 smartphone.

Display

Both the devices have similar features when it comes to display. Both devices have Full HD and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The screen size has a negligible difference. The Nexus 5 comes with 4.95 inches screen in comparison to the 5 inches screen of the S4. However, the technology comes with a difference. The S4 is equipped with a Super AMOLED screen that offers saturated and bright viewing experience. The Nexus 5 sports an IPS screen.

System

The Nexus 5 runs Android version 4.4 KitKat in comparison to the UI Touchwiz of the Samsung Galaxy S4. Without detailing the specific features of both the systems, it can be safely concluded that both devices offer a unique software experience to the users. However, Samsung has a plethora of software features making use of its Touchwiz interface. The Nexus 5 sports a pure Android experience providing you with absolute control over customization of widgets, software, launchers, home screen and more.

Performance

Both these devices are competent to run almost anything that is compatible with Android at present. Both are compatible with USB OTB and are coupled with a RAM of 2GB. The difference lies in the internal storage department. The S4 has a microSD card slot for external memory enhancement that is absent in the Nexus 5 smartphone. Nexus 5 has a 2300 mAh battery in comparison to the 2600 mAh battery of the S4 smartphone.

Both these smartphones are powerful and efficient devices available at an affordable price range. To choose one between the two would be a difficult task for a potential buyer.
