Motorola Moto G vs Samsung Galaxy S4 – Best Specs and Price Comparison

In this article, we’re comparing two different phones, the Moto G and the Galaxy S4, which were well received by the fans when they were released. But that was last year. In between, many superior smartphones have been launched, and the older smartphones are struggling to convince the phone lovers to spend their money on them. The Moto G and the S4 have advantages and disadvantages, but we’ll let you discover them.

Motorola Moto G

The Motorola model was released towards the end of 2013 and created a buzz because of its cool design. The back cover is soft to touch and it comes in many color variants. It’s one of the cheapest smartphones, despite of its decent specs.

Display and sizes

The display of the Moto G is IPS LCD and has the size of 5inches and a resolution of 720x1280pixels (326ppi). It’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, it weights 143grams and the dimensions of this device are 129.9×65.9×11.6mm.

Hardware and OS

The Moto G hides under its hood a 1.2GHz Quad-core Cortex-A7 GPU, which is backed up by the Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset and the Adreno 305 GPU. It hosts 1GB of RAM and 8/16GB of internal memory, which can’t be expanded. The phone runs on the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)OS, which can be upgraded to the 4.4.3(KitKat) version.

Camera

The primary camera is o5MP and supports a resolution of 2592x1944pixels, featuring LED flash, autofocus, HDR, panorama, and which records videos 720p@30fps with stereo sound. The other camera is of 1.3MP.

Battery

The disadvantage of the Moto G is that it has a non-removable Li-Ion battery, but the capacity of 2070mAh is allowing the battery to have a decent lifetime.

Price

179 dollars is the price of the Moto G 8GB variant on amazon.com.

Samsung Galaxy S4

Those of you who can’t afford to buy the Galaxy S5 can opt for its predecessor, a smartphone with a great performance. But do you think it can beat the Moto G?

Display and sizes

The smartphone has a Super AMOLED display of the same size as the Moto G’s screen – 5inches, but it has Full HD and a higher resolution – 1080x1920pixels (441ppi). It’s 13grams lighter than the Moto G and its dimensions are: 136.6×69.8×7.9mm. So, this category is obviously won by the Samsung model.

Hardware and OS

The S4 comes with a 1.6GHz Quad-core Cortex-A15&1.2GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU, backed up by the Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset and PowerVR SGX544MP3 GPU. It hosts 2GB of RAM and 16/32/64GB of internal memory (the first two variants being expandable up to 64GB). The S4 came loaded with the Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) OS, but you can now upgrade it to the 4.4.2 (KitKat) version.

Camera

The primary camera is also better – 13MP (4128x3096pixels, LED flash, autofocus, Dual Shot, HDR, simultaneous HD video & image recording, touch focus, image stabilization, geo-tagging, 1080p@30fps dual-video recording. The secondary camera is 2MP.

Battery

The S4’s battery is replaceable and it has the capacity of 2600mAh, which allows you to talk 17hours on 3G. In stand by mode, it withstands 370hours.

Price

The 16GB variant of the S4 is sold on amazon.com for the price of 429 dollars.

Verdict

Among the two, the S4 has better specs and it costs double the price of the Moto G. But if you are short of money, the Motorola handset will satisfy you.
