The Moto G is one of the finest smartphones to come from Motorola after the company became a part of Google.
Since then, it has been taken over by new investors and the Moto X2 could be the device that becomes their first product in this new era. The Moto X2 will be a replacement to the highly successful Moto X that came out in August, 2013. The Moto G came out a few months later and it was largely targeted at the mid-range segment.
Display
Despite coming from the same company, it is widely expected that the Moto G and the Moto X2 will be substantially different in terms of design. This was not the case with the previous comparison between Moto G and Moto X. It is hard to believe that the Moto G is a mid-range smartphone because of a 4.5 inch display. This display uses the IPS panels for better viewing angles, it is easy to see why this phone has done so well in the last year. Further, the Moto G also provides 720p resolution as well.
Technology
Being a premium device, the Moto X2 is expected to improve on the 4.7 inch display seen in the previous generation device. The Moto X adopted a different strategy by featuring an AMOLED display. This technology is likely to be retained on the Moto X2, although it is speculated that this device will come with a 5.2 inch screen. This overwhelming increase in screen size will be largely achieved by slimming down the bezel rather than increasing the overall dimensions of the phone. Along with the increase in screen size, it will also feature a relative increase in the resolution, making it 1080p.
Memory
This will help it maintain the same pixel densities, which is often a desired aspect in this segment. One of the criticisms of the Moto G has been the amount of internal memory on offer. The device features only 16 GB as the maximum option, while the Moto X2 is expected to provide a maximum of 64 GB just as the previous version. A major hindrance is because of the lack of external memory card support. Given that the likes of Samsung and HTC excelled in this regard, it is a must that the upcoming Moto X2 offers this feature too.
Camera
Camera is not a major standpoint of the Moto G since it uses only an average 5 megapixel unit. The Moto X offered a 10 megapixel camera, which is once again likely to be expanded on the Moto X2 to 13 megapixel. This is expected to be done in parallel to the arrival of new features like panorama and 4K video recording. The front facing camera is 1.3 megapixel on the Moto G, while the Moto X2 is expected to carry a 2 megapixel camera.
One of the main reasons for the phenomenal success of the Moto G is its price of just $200 while the Moto X2 could be around $400.
