LG G2 vs Sony Xperia ZL – Comparison of Specifications and Features

The release of the LG G2, successor to the LG Optimus G was welcomed with applause.

The smartphone has impressive specifications. The device comes with a 5.2 inches display touchscreen, making it fit into the larger category of smartphones. Let us compare the smartphone with Sony’s flagship smartphone for the year 2013, the Xperia ZL. The Sony Xperia ZL is a plain yet brawny smartphone. The specifications of the smartphone match that of the stylish and slimmer Sony Xperia Z. Let us see how the two stand up against each other with regards to their features and specifications.

Design, Dimension and Display

As mentioned earlier, the device encompasses a 5.2 inches multi touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection coating. The dimensions of the smartphone measures 138.5mm in height, 70.9mm in width and 8.9mm in thickness. The 5.2 full HD display is both large and sharp that comes with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. The power and the volume button are placed at the back. This interesting feature may not be necessarily praised by the masses. However, the point made by LG for this bizarre move refers to the way people have started holding bigger smartphones. People with small hands also want to take advantage of bigger screens. One-handed operation may take up a lot of effort to push the power or volume button. The reason is interesting; yet, may not be applauded. The G2 is equipped with a 13MP rear and 2.1MP front camera.

In comparison, the Xperia ZL can be termed as a giant smartphone contained in a compact body. Sony is renowned for its OmniBalance design with right angles across the phone and flat surfaces. However, the Xperia ZL has a superficial front look with shallow curves and angles at the back. Yet, the smartphone provides a comfortable grip. The smartphone caters the user with a soft textured plastic rear. The dimensions of the device measures 131.6mm in height, 69.3mm in width and 9.8mm in thickness. The smartphone is thicker than its competitor but can be easily operated single-handedly. The 5 inches TFT touchscreen comes with resolution of 1080x1920pixels, similar to that of LG G2. The device also comes with a front 2MP and a rear 13MP camera.

Hardware

The LG G2 comes equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core 2.26GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU. The device has internal storage capacity of 16 or 32 GB with 2GB of RAM. A 3000 mAh non-removable battery powers the entire smartphone.

In comparison, the Xperia ZL is powered by a Qualcomm 1.5GHz Krait processor and Adreno 320 GPU. The smartphone bears internal storage capacity of 16GB and 2GB of RAM. The smartphone comes equipped with a non-removable 2370 mAh battery.

Operating System and Price

The G2 runs on Android OS version 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system that can be upgraded to version 4.4.2 KitKat. The device is available at $559.99.

In comparison, the Xperia ZL runs on Android OS version 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system that can be upgraded to version 4.4.2 KitKat. The smartphone is priced at $409.99.

The LG G2 may not be having a defining feature but when it comes to specifications, it makes it a sound contender against the Sony Xperia ZL. However, the smarter ergonomics of the ZL makes it too valuable to be ignored.
