Choosing Your Digital Media Player – Apple TV vs Roku vs Chromecast

There are electronic devices that can be connected to media networks for streaming. With these digital media players, you can just sit and swipe using your gadgets and choose any movies you desire. Choosing a quality product for streaming is a must for all buyers. There are many choices of digital media players offered in stores but you might want to choose either of these players; Apple TV, Roku or Chromecast.

Apple TV

This media player comes with an Apple TV, Apple Remote, Power Cord and Documentation. It has a size of 0.9 x 3.9 x 3.9 inches, weighs 0.6 ounce and has a processor of Apple single-core A5 chip. Installed ports included are HDMI, optical audio, Ethernet, built-in IR receiver and micro-USB. The device is wireless wherein you can use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is also a wireless Apple keyboard which connects through Bluetooth. You can control the TV within 8 meters.

Apple TV can play H.264 video up to 1080p with AAC-LC audio up to 165kbps per channel, MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 mbps 640 by 480 pixels and motion JPEG up to 35 mbps 1280 by 720 pixels. You can also view photos with JPEG, GIF, and TIFF formats. Apple TV is compatible with high-definition TV with HDMI.

For audio formats, it can only support the following formats; HE-AAC, AAC, AAC from iTunes, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible, Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV. Almost all common and popular video and audio formats are supported by Apple TV.

Roku 3

Roku dimensions are 1 x 3.5 x 3.5 inches with a weight of 5 ounces. Its networking is 802.11 dual bands with WEP, WAP and WPA2 Ethernet for consumer’s convenience. It can be controlled by headphone jack and motion control. It is compatible only with HDTVs that is why it is only limited. You can choose from 1000+ entertainment channels. Use the Roku App to send videos, photos and music saved in your Smartphone. You can also play games using motion control system.

For video formats, it can play MP4 H.264 and MKV. It can support 720p and 1080p resolution. Images are also viewed with JPG and PNG formats. Roku 3 only supports AAC and MP3 audio formats with its HDMI audio output.

Chromecast

Chromecast dimensions are 0.47 x 2.83 x 1.38 inches, weighing 0.07 ounces. It is compatible with HDMI. It has a built-in Wi-Fi support with a wireless security of WEP, WPA and WPA2. You can insert USB and USB cables if you are using external memories. It is also remote free wherein you can browse your files and video using Smartphone, tablets, iPhones and etc. The supported systems are Android, iOS, Windows7, Mac OS and Chrome OS. It can also support up to 1080p video resolutions. You can play videos from YouTube, Netflix and other video streaming sites in this technology.
