Android 5.0 – New Features, Spec, Release Date

The world is waiting for the big launch of the new version of the operating system by Android. We do not know yet whether it will be called Android 4.5 or Android 5, but whatever it is termed, we will take a look at some of the key specifications and features likely to be a part of this new operating system.

The Release Date

There is huge speculation regarding the exact release date. If rumors are to be believed, it is likely that the new operating system will be unveiled by Google at the Google I/O 2014 conference which will be held in San Francisco in between 25th and 26th of June. This is an annual event and has often been the platform for some big launches and key announcements.

The Key Features of the New OS

When it comes down to what the key features are going to be, here are some of the main points that you need to know.

The Interface

The interface is likely to get a facelift too as there are going to be different kinds of changes coming up. It is rumored that the new operating system will offer an interface that closely resembles the one offered by Nexus 5. It is called moonshine and the icons are a little animated and have 3D, funky touch to it.

Time for 64 Bit

This is another big rumor doing the rounds at the moment. It is believed that Android will now become 64 bit unlike the 32 bit version that it used to be. The Snapdragon 808 and 810 processors have pointed at the possibility that the new OS by Android may be 64 bits.

Once the OS runs on 64 bit processor, the speed of multitasking is going to really improve and phones will be able to tap the most out of their 3 GB RAM configuration as the chips can store and pack more data.

Stronger Security

Further, there are reports that Google is working hard to ensure that the new OS is much more secure, looks more professional and can handle both personal and business orientations. The exact details of the features that will be implemented to enforce greater security remain largely unknown, but we can be hopeful that Google is going to improve the overall functionality offered by the Android operating system.

These are some of the key features that are going to be a part of Android 5.0. As these are still rumors and we do not have any official news from Google itself, we continue to make speculations about the same. Once the official release is done in the month of June, we will have a much clearer picture.

However, we still need to wait before we can actually get our hands on Android 5.0. It is likely that the soon to be released Nexus 6 smartphone or Nexus 10 tablet is going to come up with this new OS and then the other devices will follow.
