Steam OS Gets the Witcher 3 – Release Dates, Prices and Much More

With The Witcher 3, which is also called The Witcher: Wild Hunt, the game enters into its third installment. The game is already very popular among the western RPG fans, and this new title only deems to take the frenzy to a new level. The Witcher 3 was announced for several platforms, including Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Mac OS X. The game may also soon come to SteamOS if it provides a constant runtime environment for Linux.

SteamOS and the Witcher 3

The game is all set to be released on SteamOS, which is a Linux-based next-gen console. The announcement has been finally made, putting an end to all the speculation. The game is available for preorders on several consoles, becoming the first in the series to utilize the potential of a highly detailed and dynamic game environment. The operating system has been built on a Linux platform around Steam. Though the SteamOS has not been released yet, there is talk about its launch very soon, triggering a flurry of development endeavors geared toward utilizing this platform. SteamOS is slated to be available as a stand-alone, free operating system for big screen TVs very soon. If Valve Corporation decides to continue providing a constant Linux environment to the SteamOS, more and more developers would like to create games exclusively for this platform.

Release Date and Price

If you decide to preorder the game, you will be able to avail a special 10% discount on it. The game is set to be launched on February 24, 2015, and will be unlocked for downloads after that. The digital version of the game is available for $59.99, but if you preorder, you get it for $53.99, saving a full 10% on its price. The retail version will be launched after the game is officially released. Therefore, if you want to wait to order the CDs, you will have to wait for some time.
