Sony Xperia Z2 – Price, Features and Specs – Offering a Lightning Performance

The Z2 is the latest flagship phone from Sony following the Z1. It offers a full high definition display with a quad core processor and the camera with a resolution of 20.7 MP, similar to the Z1. However, the difference is that the display screen is bigger at 5.2 inches.

The processor is a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm and it runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat latest version. The camera is able to capture 4K video.

Design

It looks very similar to the earlier Z1 with a glass front and aluminum band on the edges. The design is lightweight, luxurious and offers a premium feel. It is advisable to keep it in a case, as the glass panels could be scratched. It has a high waterproof rating. The screen size is 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 p similar to the Z1.

The pixel density is lower at 423 ppi, due to the bigger screen size. The IPS display offers sharp and crisp photos and text, using the triluminous technology that produces vibrant colors.

Hardware and Software

The Sony Xperia Z2 runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the latest version from Google. Sony has done some tweaking to the software. There are several homescreen panels, an application tray and also an app menu that you can customize.

You can also access the Music along with Video Unlimited services at an additional cost. Extra themes can be downloaded to change the interface.

The phone has a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, which is clocked at 2.3GHz. It has 2GB of RAM and offers a strong performance. There is no lag and navigation is smooth without delays when you switch between the applications.

Gaming is also handled with ease and all games can be played at high frame rates to offer enjoyable gameplay to the user.

Camera Specs

The Z2 has a rear camera of 20.7 MP but if you want to use the HDR modes or the scene modes, you will have to bring it down to 20 MP. The settings of the full resolution are superb. The exposure is good with plenty of detail and rich colors.

The automatic mode tends to overexpose the scenes, but the color tone can be adjusted by tweaking the white balance a bit. The phone offers various creative modes, such as a background defocus, image effects and panorama.

The interface is simple and it is easy to select the right settings. It has a fast autofocus and very little delay between taking a picture, saving it and then going on to another.

Another feature of the camera is the ability to capture 4K video. The clarity and detail are excellent, though it may not be suitable for professional purposes.

Battery

The battery is more capacious than the predecessor. In addition, the Qualcomm processor of the phone is very power efficient. The battery may not last much in case of playing demanding games.

You can make it last longer by keeping the brightness of the screen at minimum and by turning off features like GPS and Bluetooth.

Verdict

The Sony Xperia Z2 offers an excellent performance and has a stunning display screen. The camera is excellent and the Android software is of cutting edge technology. The design is stunning to look at and the phone is also waterproof. However, it is quite expensive at around $900.

Also, it is very similar to the Z1 in many respects, so it may not be very worthwhile to upgrade. However, if you have an older Android smartphone and would like to upgrade to a new smartphone, the Sony Xperia Z2 is just the device for you.
