Sony Xperia Z1 Compact vs Sony Xperia Z2 – Comparison of Pricing and Specification

The Xperia Z2 is the latest high-end smartphone from Sony’s Xperia range.

This is the replacement for the highly successful Xperia Z1, which was also sold in a miniature version and was called as the Xperia Z1 Compact. The Xperia Z2 has all the latest features that one can think of, and the Xperia Z1 Compact is not too far behind. Having come out slightly later than the Xperia Z1, this device has all the latest features other than the large display.

Display

The compact dimensions of the Xperia Z1 Compact will be a major boost towards capturing a market that demands smaller screen sizes. Phones have been constantly increasing in screen size over the last decade, with several new models now featuring a screen that is more than 5 inches as a standard. In this regard, the Xperia Z1 Compact manages to stay incredibly compact due to a 4.3 inch display. Apart from sacrificing screen resolution, there is little to separate it from the specs of the larger models.

Technology

The Xperia Z2, meanwhile, features an increase over the 5 inch display used in the previous version. It now sports a 5.2 inch display that has all the latest technological features from Sony like Bravia engine and x-reality to produce more accurate looking colors and help them stand out even in direct sunlight. The device uses an IPS panel for the display. This coupled with the Sony technology means that it can finally compete with the AMOLED displays in certain aspects as well.

Processor

Unlike companies like Samsung, Sony has been sticking with the QUALCOMM Snapdragon processors for its high end phones. This is true in the case of the Xperia Z1 Compact and the Xperia Z2 as well. Being a slightly older device, the Xperia Z1 Compact users have to do with the 800 range, while the latest device gets a quad core 2.3 GHz processor from the 801 range. There are subtle differences to make the latest product slightly better, but it is unlikely to be noticed except in benchmark tests.

GPU

Due to this incredibly powerful processor, the Xperia Z2 ranks highly in almost all the benchmark tests, while the Adreno 330 GPU makes sure that it also comes out well in the GPU tests. The processor on the Xperia Z1 Compact is quad core 2.2 GHz. Due to the powerful specifications of both devices, they are able to run the latest android 4.4.2 versions without breaking any sweat.

Camera

The 20.7 megapixel camera is seen as one of the finest in the industry and it is good to know that the Xperia Z1 Compact features this camera despite being priced lower. The Xperia Z2 brings the future of 4K recording in addition to the features normally present on the Xperia Z1 Compact.

Being the latest offering from Sony, it is not surprising to see the Xperia Z2 priced around $700. The Xperia Z1 Compact costs around $440.
