Sony Xperia SP vs Xperia Z – Price and Specs Comparison

Dreaming of having a smartphone that “flashes” whenever you have a missed call? Think out of the box and let others envy you because your phone is fancy, while your friends’ phones are ordinary. Buy the Sony Xperia SP and use its illuminated antenna to draw attention! Or if you want to impress your friends with the pictures you share on facebook, buy the Xperia Z, whose camera is a lot more advanced. But it’s very hard to decide which phone is worth buying. We’ll compare them, in order to help you make the best decision.

Displays and sizes

The Xperia SP is a mid-sized phone, but with a smaller display than the Xperia Z. Xperia’s 4.6-inch TFT screen renders a resolution of 720x1280pixels, while the Xperia Z, with its 5-inch TFT screen can support a higher resolution, of 1080x1920pixels.

The Xperia SP is heavier, weighting 155grams, and its dimensions (130.6×67.1x10mm) make it the perfect phone for your hands. The Xperia Z is 9grams lighter, but you won’t complain of its dimensions (139x71x7.9mm), either.

Hardware and OS

The Xperia SP has a lower internal memory of 8GB, but if you’ll want to increase it, with a MicroSD card it will be expanded up to 64GB. As for the heart that lies under the hood, the Xperia S can be proud of its dual core krait processor, clocked at 1.7GHz, and its Qualcomm MSM8960T Snapdragon chipset.

The higher, the better! We’re talking about the internal memory capacity, which is double, compared to Xperia SP’s internal storage. But there’s good news: you can expand it up to 64GB, as well. The Xperia Z’s processor is quad core krait, clocked at 1.5GHz, and the chipset is Qualcomm MDM9215M/APQ8064.

These are Android phones running on the Jelly Bean version with 1GB of RAM, respectively 2GB of RAM.

Cameras

The Xperia SP takes accurate photos with the 8MP primary camera that has features such as LED flash and autofocus, and for video calls you can use the VGA front camera. The Xperia Z has a lot more advanced primary camera – 13.1MP (similar features), while the secondary camera is of 2.2MP.

Batteries

Both the phone’s batteries are non-removable, but the Xperia SP’s battery has a capacity of 2370mAh and allows you to talk 19 hours, on 3G, or to listen to music for 39hours, while the Xperia Z’s battery, with the capacity of 2330mAh, allows you to talk only 14 hours, on 3G, or to listen to music for 40hours.

Prices

The Sony Xperia SP 4G, LTE version costs 241 dollars on amazon.com. The Xperia Z 4G, LTE version costs 410 dollars.
