Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 vs Nexus 7 2013 – Specs and Price Comparison

Two of the Samsung Tabs were released on June 12, in an event held in New York. It’s about the Galaxy Tab S tablets with 8.4inches and 10.5inches displays, two devices that come with impressive specifications and a decent price. We’ll compare the smaller version of the Tab S with the Nexus 7 2013, which has similar features. What you’ll love about the Tab S tablet is that it has a fingerprint scanner and it can be used as a PC Remote control.

Displays and sizes

With the rick of repeating ourselves, the Tab S model comes with an 8.4inches display, which is a Super AMOLED that supports a high resolution of 2,560×1,600pixels. Its rival, the Nexus 7, it’s smaller, having an IPS LCD display with the size of 7inches, which is capable of rendering a resolution of only 1,920×1,200pixels. In terms of pixel density, the Galaxy Tab S model stands out with the 359ppi, while the Nexus 7 supports only 323ppi of pixel density. So, the winner of this category – definitely the Samsung tablet!

As for the dimensions, the Galaxy Tab S is 6.6mm thick and it weights 298grams, while the Nexus 7 is 8.65mm tick and it has the same weight as its competitor. The Samsung tablet is a winner again, because it’s thinner!

On the outside, the Galaxy Tab S looks like the Galaxy S5 smartphone, having a perforated textured rear. The other phone has a matte plastic cover, while the screen is surrounded by a black strip of glass.

Hardware and OS

The Tab S model comes in two versions: the non-LTE variant, with an Exynos 5 processor, clocked at 1.9GHz quad-core, respectively 1.3GHz quad-core, having 3GB of RAM. The LTE variant has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, clocked at 2.3GHz. The Nexus 7, has a slightly more inferior quad-core -> Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Krait processor, which is clocked at 1.5GHz, Also it houses only 2GB of RAM.

Both of the tablets run on the Android platform, but on different versions: the Tab S runs on the 4.4 KitKat version, while the other tablet runs on the v4.3 Jelly Bean version, upgradeable to the 4.4 KitKat OS.

Memories

Both of the devices come with 16 and 32GB of internal storage, but only the Tab S allows you to expand its internal memory up to 128GB.

Cameras

The Tab S has a better primary camera, with the resolution of 8MP (LED flash), sporting also a 2.1Mp front camera. Meanwhile, the Nexus 7 tries really hard to impress with its 5MP primary camera, which doesn’t have LED flash, and its 1.2MP secondary camera.

Batteries

The Tab S is equipped with a 4900mAh battery, with Ultra Power Saving mode, while the Nexus 7 has a battery with a lower capacity – 3950mAh, but it can be charged via wireless.

Prices

The Nexus 7 32GB, LTE variant costs on amazon.com around 328 dollars. The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 16GB costs 329 dollars, while the 10.5 model will be released on June 26, and it will cost around 500 dollars.
