Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S – Top Specs and Price Comparison

A few days ago, Samsung revealed two variants of their upcoming tablets, the Galaxy Tab S with 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch displays. In this article, we’ll compare the 8.4-inch Tab S with the 8-inch Galaxy Tab 3.

Displays and sizes

As we were mentioning in the introduction, the size of Galaxy Tab S’s display is 8.4inches, being a Super AMOLED screen that supports an incredible high resolution of 2,560x ,600pixels. The Galaxy Tab 3’s 8inches Super Clear LCD screen supports a lower resolution – 1,280x800pixels and the pixel density is of 189ppi, while the Tab S supports a pixel density of 359ppi.

Talking about dimensions, the Tab S has a thickness of 6.6mm and a weight of 249grams, while the Tab 3’s thickness is of 7.4mm and its weight is of 319grams.

In terms of design, the Galaxy Tab S looks similar to the Galaxy S5, having a perforated textured rear, while the Tab 3 has curvy edges and back cover is made of plastic, having a glossy look.

Hardware and OS

The Tab S will come in a non-LTE version, which will be equipped with an octa-core Exynos 5 processor, clocked at 1.9GHz quad-core & 1.3GHz quad-core, and will have 3GB of RAM. The LTE version will be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm (Snapdragon800 processor).

The Galaxy Tab 3 will come with a more inferior dual-core, Exynos 4 Dual ARM Cortex-A9 processor (clocked at 1.5GHz) and will have 1.5GB of RAM.

As for the OS, while both of these tablets are Androids, the Galaxy Tab S comes loaded with the v4.4 KitKat version, while the Tab 3 is running on the v4.2.2 Jelly Bean version.

Memories

The Tab S has two variants of internal memories: 16 and 32GB, expandable up to 128GB. The Galaxy Tab 3 has the same built-in storage capacity, but it can be expanded only up to 64GB.

Cameras

The Tab 3 has a 5MP primary camera and a 1.3MP secondary camera. The Tab S will host an 8MP primary camera (LED Flash) and a 2MP front-facing camera.

Batteries

The Tab S will come with an impressive 4900mAh battery (Ultra Power Saving mode). The Galaxy Tab 3 has a decent 4450mAh battery.

Misc

1. Both of these tablets have LTE, non-LTE or Wi-Fi only models.
2. The Tab S will be used as a Remote PC.
3. The Tab S has a fingerprint scanner.
4. The Galaxy Tab 3 has multi-window support, Smart Stay eye-tracking and Pop Up video.

Prices

The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 inches will cost around 400 dollars and will hit the markets in July, while the Tab 3 8 inches costs 250 dollars.
