Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 – Specifications and Pricing Comparison

The third-generation tablets from Samsung features significant improvements over the previous generation devices.

Like in the past, they are available in two variants with both featuring different screen sizes. This is primarily the major differentiating aspect between the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0.

Bulk

Owing to the slightly larger display, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is the heavier of the two devices coming in at 510 g compared to the 314 g weight of the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. The latter is also slightly thinner and it will also occupy less space as a whole. The major differentiating aspect happens to be the screen, which is a 10.1 inch unit on the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. On the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, it is replaced by a slightly smaller 8-inch unit.

Pixel Density

Since the resolution is the same in both devices, it is the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 that manages to provide more value for money when it comes to clarity of images. The pixel density of the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 suffers – in comparison with its slightly larger cousin – in this regard.

Camera

The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 has only a 3.15 megapixel camera, which has not changed much from the previous generation models. It is inferior in comparison to the five megapixel unit on the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. In addition to the increased detail from pictures, it is also far easier to shoot using the camera of the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. It not only comes with features like autofocus and 720p HD video recording, but it can also do Geotagging and face detection as well.

In comparison, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 does not offer additional features like auto focus and face detection, but it does have the capacity to shoot HD videos.

Operating System

The two devices use the android operating system 4.2.2 version, but they go about their business in different fashion because of the different processors. While the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 uses an Atom processor from the Intel range, the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 uses the Exynos. The former is traditionally found in small laptops, while the latter is largely used in mobile phones. The difference in performance is also likely to be felt because of the slightly larger 1.5 GB of RAM present in the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0.

RAM

The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 comes only with 1 GB of RAM, but it should be just about sufficient to run most apps with enough performance on-board.

Battery

In terms of battery, there’s a significant difference because of the larger display on the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. It needs to come with a 6800 mAh battery in comparison with the 4450 mAh unit on the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0.

Priced at $250, the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is slightly cheaper than the 10.1 inch model, which comes in at around $200.
